Matelândia: Urban Greenery, Cycling Route and Waterfalls

Matelândia combines a central urban green space with rural experiences in the municipality. Parque Farroupilha is in the city center; farms, the Circuito Sabiá cycling route and several waterfalls are other highlights of the destination. When planning a holiday rental, this distinction is useful: you can focus your stay on urban green space and local city life, or on trips to destinations in the municipality. Some rural destinations also have specific conditions for visiting.

Urban Green Space in the City Center

Parque Farroupilha is a 22,000 m² urban green space in the center of Matelândia. Its paths, paved with concrete pavers, surround the grounds and connect to one another within the park. Its central location is complemented by a clearly laid-out path network and a continuous park area. The park represents Matelândia’s urban side and offers a different point of reference from the waterfalls and rural experiences in the municipality.

Local Traditions and the Circuito Sabiá Route

Regional livelihoods are also part of the picture. The XIII Quermesse de Inverno 2026 recognizes local trade and agriculture on family farms. Its focus on trade and agriculture offers a different emphasis from the nature and walking routes.

A municipal announcement from 2024 included the cycling route known as “Circuito Sabiá” in the Pedala Paraná program. A 2016 article by Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism describes Circuito Sabiá in the municipality as a tourist attraction formed by farm families who welcome visitors to their farms. Gruta do Rio Sabiá is halfway along the Circuito. The 2016 article also names the Moinho de Vento windmill in the municipality as a place worth seeing.

Waterfalls and Visiting Conditions

Cachoeira do Tio João was developed as a recreation area in the municipality of Matelândia for people who want to enjoy a natural, peaceful setting. Camping is available on private property; lunch is offered by prior reservation. Before visiting, ask about current availability and reserve lunch in advance.

Cachoeiras da Fazenda Boito consists of two large waterfalls and one small one. They are located on the boundary between the communities of Rio Sabiá and Vila Brasil, on property inhabited by settlers; access is by permission only. Cachoeira Facchi is in the municipality of Matelândia, along the road in Linha São Roque. It is not set up for sightseeing, but serves as a strategic stop for cyclists and hikers to take photos.

Choose the Right Focus

When choosing a holiday rental, start by asking what you want to focus on during your stay: the central park and local cultural theme, or the route, farms and rural nature destinations.
