Laranjeiras do Sul combines urban open spaces with cultural venues and events that appeal to a range of interests. Families can find playgrounds in the city centre and at Parque Municipal Poliesportivo Lago 1; those interested in history, crafts or music can discover other sides of the city. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, it helps to first consider which of these experiences you want to shape your stay.

Squares and outdoor recreation

Praça José Nogueira do Amaral is in the city centre. Native trees, including araucarias, shape its landscaping. There are also children's playgrounds and an acoustic shell for cultural performances. The square therefore combines a public gathering place with a cultural stage. If you are looking for both time outdoors and cultural experiences during your trip, it offers a different point of interest from a sports and recreation area.

Parque Municipal Poliesportivo Lago 1 is on Avenida Ivan Ferreira do Amaral, at the city's main entrance. Its amenities range from walking, running and cycling to a recreational area with beach volleyball, futsal and basketball courts. The grounds also include children's playgrounds. An annual fishing competition is held in the park's lake. These varied activities make the park a useful guide for travellers considering outdoor exercise and recreation; the fishing competition is a separate annual event.

History, performance and crafts

Casa da Memória is a former post office and a 175 m² wooden building. It was listed as a heritage site in 1989 and opened with its historical collection on 4 September 2015. Preserved items include furniture and objects from the 1940s, when the building served as the official residence of Secretary-General Major Raul Gomes Pereira do Nascimento. Another collection explores the history of Laranjeiras do Sul, with a focus on yerba mate. Casa da Memória thus highlights both the building's history and the region's development.

Cine Teatro Iguassu is equipped for major cultural performances at the municipal, regional, state and federal levels. Its spacious facilities include a gallery and a large entrance hall; the auditorium has 420 seats. Those interested in stage performances will find a cultural venue here with a different focus from the historical collections or outdoor activities.

ARTEL Associação dos Artesãos de Laranjeiras do Sul was founded on 25 April 1985. It gives artisans a place to exhibit and sell their handicrafts and also offers art classes and workshops. ARTEL is located by the municipality's bus station. This gives travellers the opportunity to combine an interest in crafts with creative learning, without requiring a particular event format.

Traditions and events

CTG Estância do Iguaçu was founded on 21 April 2018. In the municipality, it holds free Gaucho music festivals, mateadas, shows, chimarrão gatherings and activities for Semana Farroupilha. These events offer insights into Gaucho music and community traditions. The Festa da Padroeira Santana, meanwhile, is held in July over seven nights; two more nights are devoted to the closing parish festival, Sant’Ana Fest.

The Festival Laranja da Canção also has a clear musical focus: it takes place every year in November over four nights. Local and regional awards are presented in the Gospel, popular music, Gaucho music and Sertanejo categories. If events are important to your trip, these dates differ in month, duration and musical focus. Plan your holiday rental search around the event that interests you most, rather than assuming all events take place at the same time.

Getting there and focusing your accommodation search

Laranjeiras do Sul is accessible via the BR-277, BR-158 and PR-565 highways. Another distinctive infrastructure feature is the Ferroeste railway line, which connects western Paraná with the port of Paranaguá. It passes through Laranjeiras do Sul near the communities of Colônia União and Passo Liso; its tunnel is more than 400 metres long.

The Lago Alcindo Natel de Camargo water park is planned as a nature attraction in the São Francisco neighbourhood. The listed features include sand courts, basketball and futsal courts, a viewpoint, a walking path and a children's playground. Since this is a planned project, it should be distinguished from existing recreational areas such as Lago 1.
