Marituba combines the history of a railway settlement with nature experiences in REVIS Metrópole da Amazônia and its own cultural life. There are several highlights to consider when planning your trip: trails and ecosystems in the protected area, natural swimming pools, and local venues and events. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Marituba, you can consider which of these experiences you would like to shape your trip.

Trails and ecosystems in REVIS

REVIS Metrópole da Amazônia encompasses aquatic ecosystems as well as terra firme and várzea ecosystems. The 13.1-kilometre Circuito da Pirelli is located in the protected area. There is also the Rota do Guarumã, a trail created by IDEFLOR-Bio. These trails offer different ways to explore the landscape and natural areas of the municipality.

To reach REVIS, take the Rodovia BR-316 to kilometre 14, then continue along the Estrada da Pirelli for a further 4 kilometres to the entrance of the unit. Separately, the BR-316 runs through Marituba for 7 kilometres. The municipality is one of the 13 municipalities on the Rota Turística Belém-Bragança, a tourism programme run by the state government, and has tourist signs for its main attractions.

The free Feira da Biodiversidade is held monthly in REVIS. Farmers and artisans from the Belém metropolitan region and other municipalities in the state of Pará come together there. The protected area thus brings together nature-related themes and opportunities to meet local producers and artisans. The Ruínas do Engenho and historic rubber-processing structures on the former site of the Fazenda, or Pirelli company, dating from 1950 to 1960, are also among the potential historical and cultural attractions for educational activities in REVIS.

Water experiences and trails around town

In Marituba, Balneário Floresta Park offers natural swimming pools for adults and children. The park also has a restaurant with a varied menu. Balneário Paraíso das Pedras also has natural swimming pools, along with free parking and a bar serving drinks and meals. The two places offer different additional features: Floresta Park has a restaurant, while Paraíso das Pedras offers parking and a bar.

Restaurante Rural Terra do Meio has two kilometres of trails. You can also go canoeing on the river and cool off with a swim beneath igapó trees or in the Mururé. If you would rather combine your time with a trail, a trip on the water or a swim, this is a distinct option alongside the balneários' natural swimming pools.

History, squares and events

Marituba began as a workers' settlement for the Estrada de Ferro de Bragança during the last two decades of the 19th century. This history gives the town a different character from the municipality's natural areas. The Igreja Católica Menino Deus stands in Praça Antônio Perdigão Bastos and was built during the colonisation of the area. The square also has an open-air stage used for shows and performances by local and regional artists.

The first completed construction phase of Praça Menino Deus also had a distinctive focus: it included a sensory garden and a sensory trail. Alongside the history of the older church, public squares with cultural and sensory features are another part of Marituba's diverse character.

Natal dos Sonhos de Marituba is held regularly from December to January at Praça Matriz, with free admission. Performances include bands, cultural groups, the choir of the municipality's Casa da Cultura and invited groups from the region. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, December to January is the relevant seasonal period. When choosing your holiday rental, you can consider nature experiences, local history and cultural events as different reasons to include Marituba in your travel plans.
