Sacramento
Accommodation in Sacramento
Sacramento can be explored through very different facets: religious architecture and heritage, literary works, and a tourist complex with a large lake. It is also connected to the Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra, which extends beyond the town itself. The geographical scale is therefore also worth considering when planning a trip: cultural sites and the Parque Náutico de Jaguara represent Sacramento itself, while Canastra offers a regional perspective.
Religious heritage and protected architecture
The Basílica do Santíssimo Sacramento is dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio do Santíssimo Sacramento, Sacramento’s patron saint. It was also the first basilica in the ecclesiastical province of Uberaba, which encompasses the entire Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba. Its significance thus combines a specific local dedication with an ecclesiastical status that encompasses a larger region. Visitors interested in religious history will encounter both the patron saint and the church’s status extending beyond Sacramento.
Another place of architectural, historical, and religious value is Chácara Triângulo. The town protected the building complex on March 12, 2007, by Decree No. 58. It is also known as “Mansão do Amor,” “Culto do Amor Cristão,” “Recanto da Prece,” and “Casa do Caminho.” The Centro Espírita Casa do Caminho is located within Chácara, where the Culto das 9h takes place daily. The name Casa do Caminho thus appears both as a name for the complex and in the name of the center. Its daily religious practice and protected status offer two distinct ways of understanding this place.
Literary works and local history
The Acervo Carolina Maria de Jesus comprises diaries, novels, short stories, proverbs, poems, pictures, short texts, and autobiographical narratives written in Carolina Maria de Jesus’s own hand. The collection thus ranges from personal records to a variety of literary forms. Part of the Acervo is held at the Arquivo Público Municipal “Cônego Hermógenes Cassimiro de Araújo Brunswick” in Sacramento. The collection and its place of safekeeping are two distinct aspects of this literary legacy.
The Museu Histórico Municipal Corália Venites Maluf, which opened in 1983, offers a different perspective on the town. Its extensive collection includes the first law book of the Câmara de Sacramento, an image of the town’s patron saint, religious and secular objects, and personal belongings of prominent Sacramento residents. Different kinds of mementos are thus brought together: a municipal law book, religious objects, and personal belongings. In contrast to the Acervo Carolina Maria de Jesus, which contains texts written by a single author, the museum’s collection offers a broader assemblage of objects from local history and everyday life.
Lake, trails, and the Serra da Canastra
The Parque Náutico de Jaguara offers a different focus. The tourist complex includes a 33 km² lake and ecological trails. The water and trails shape two different aspects of the site: the size of the lake and the opportunity to explore the ecological trails. Here, a focus on the landscape complements cultural history and literature.
The Serra da Canastra is part of the wider travel region. The Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra includes six municipalities: Capitólio, Delfinópolis, São João Batista do Glória, São Roque de Minas, Vargem Bonita, and Sacramento. The national park protects the headwaters of the Rio São Francisco; Sacramento is one of its access points. Portaria 03 is 70 km from the town. Canastra therefore covers a different geographical scale from the cultural sites and the Parque Náutico, which are located in Sacramento itself.
Choose the right focus for your holiday apartment
If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Sacramento, you can start by considering which of these facets you want to shape your trip. Religious heritage, architecture, literature, and collections offer different points of interest from the lake and ecological trails. The national park, by contrast, opens up a regional perspective; the 70 km distance to Portaria 03 provides a concrete geographical reference.
