Rialma: River History and Sertanejo Tradition
Accommodation in Rialma
Rialma reveals two distinct sides: the Rio das Almas as a major tourist attraction and local traditions surrounding the Festa do Peão and Cavalgada. The Cachoeira do Córrego do Café is also one of the municipality’s tourist attractions. If you’re traveling with children, you can consider whether the river and waterfall or the festivals and sertanejo culture should be the focus of your explorations. The town’s history is also closely tied to the river and to Ceres on the opposite bank.
A River Shapes the Town’s History
The village from which Rialma emerged was established in 1940 on the right bank of the Rio das Almas. At the same time, Ceres was established on the opposite bank with the founding of the Colônia Agrícola Nacional. The river separates the municipalities of Rialma and Ceres. It is therefore not only a major tourist attraction, but also a geographical point of reference in the history of the two towns. Even the name Rialma refers to it: it is a contraction of “Rio das Almas.”
Rio das Almas and Cachoeira do Córrego do Café
Another natural feature is the Cachoeira do Córrego do Café. It lies in the upper part of the Serra do Córrego do Café, in Assentamento Poções, and is considered an important and beautiful tourist attraction in the municipality of Rialma. Adventurers from Rialma, Ceres and Goiânia occasionally visit the waterfall. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between the river, described as the main attraction, and this separately named waterfall.
The names also provide specific geographical context: the Rio das Almas centers on the river, while the Cachoeira do Córrego do Café is also associated with the Serra do Córrego do Café and Assentamento Poções. If you’re interested in nature, these are two distinct starting points for exploring Rialma. A vacation rental in Rialma is an especially natural choice if you’d like to include these natural features and the town’s history in your travel plans.
Festa do Peão, Cavalgada and Local Culture
Traditional events also offer a glimpse into life in Rialma. The Festa do Peão took place from July 15 to 19 as part of the celebrations marking the 72nd anniversary of the city’s political emancipation. A rodeo was part of the program. A traditional Cavalgada opened the celebrations for the 73rd anniversary of the municipality’s emancipation; it represents sertanejo traditions and culture. Alongside its natural attractions, Rialma thus offers a cultural experience shaped by rural traditions.
The first stop of Cine Leitura do Bem was scheduled for September 1 at Parque Ecológico Angélica Oliveira. A free literature and film program for children and teenagers was planned. This program was specifically aimed at young visitors and complements Rialma’s natural attractions and events with literature and film.
