Itapirapuã grew up on the banks of the Rio Itapirapuã. The river is also the setting for the Rally de Bóia, which gives the town a distinctive cultural and tourism profile. The main attraction of the Rally is considered to be the Boieiros’ descent along the Rio Itapirapuã. The event drew tourists from various regions and promoted adventure and ecotourism. For travelers, it brings together the river and a local tradition that extends beyond a single recreational activity.

The Rally de Bóias: River Activities and Tradition

The Rally de Boia is considered intangible cultural heritage of Itapirapuã. The 29th edition was scheduled as a family event from June 6 to 8, 2025, with infrastructure for safety, organization, and quality. June 26 to 28 were planned as the event dates for the 2026 Rally de Bóias. These dates describe plans for specific editions, not an ongoing event calendar.

Earlier program items also show how the Rally incorporated river activities and other themes. In 2015, the program included a bike ride from Escola Municipal Sebastiana Sardinha da Costa to the riverside area where the Rally was held. Biodegradable balloons containing seeds of native plants were also released on the banks of the Rio Itapirapuã. The action illustrated the reforestation of the riverside vegetation.

According to Nilson Almir, the first edition took place over the Corpus Christi weekend in 1993. Together with its established cultural significance, this history gives the event a clear local connection: it is not just an activity on the water, but also a tradition linked to Itapirapuã and its river.

Festivals and Regional Culture

A 2010 report described the festival honoring Itapirapuã’s patron saint, São Domingos, which ran from July 30 to August 8. The festival included pilgrimages and prayers as well as auctions and market stalls; there were also areas for leisure and recreation. The report thus captures different aspects of the festival: religious customs, community gatherings, and more secular entertainment.

In the district of Jacilândia, which belongs to the municipality of Itapirapuã, the first Cavalgada in June 2025 brought together committees, riders, and families for a celebration of sertaneja tradition. The event included a parade of committees through the district’s streets, cultural performances, and music. Traditional Arroz carreteiro was served to participants. Organizers announced the first edition as the start of future editions.

The 1st Rodeio Show also represents a return to local tradition: after 13 years, the rodeo tradition returned. The event strengthened sertaneja culture and boosted the local economy; it ran through August 30. Taken together, the Rally, festival, Cavalgada, and Rodeio showcase different cultural events documented in Itapirapuã or its associated district.

What to Consider When Choosing a Vacation Rental

When looking for a vacation rental in Itapirapuã, it helps to start by deciding what your trip is about. If the Rally is your main reason for visiting, proximity to the Rio Itapirapuã matters; if you are interested in religious or sertaneja traditions, other types of events may be more relevant. If you want to plan your trip around a particular edition of a festival, check its dates before choosing your travel period and accommodation. That way, your plans can reflect what interests you most about the area, rather than a generic idea of the destination.

A Look at Other Travel Experiences in Goiás

Elsewhere in the state of Goiás, you can find other, distinctly different natural and cultural landscapes. The Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros is part of the Cerrado Protected Areas UNESCO World Heritage site on the Brazilian Central Plateau. In Parque Nacional das Emas, typical Cerrado animals such as giant anteaters, maned wolves, rheas, tapirs, and deer are a visitor attraction. There are also free, self-guided trails within the areas open to visitors and during permitted visiting hours; check the current access conditions before visiting. These examples broaden the picture of Goiás without replacing Itapirapuã’s river and festival traditions.
