Mimoso do Sul brings together city views, trails into the hills, and cultural traditions in the town and surrounding area. From Cristo Redentor, the panoramic view stretches across the city; a footpath leads to Pedra Estrela Dalva. In São Pedro do Itabapoana, hand embroidery, a historic district and a winter festival shape the town’s character. When choosing a holiday rental, it is therefore worth first considering whether city life, outdoor activities, history or festival culture will be the focus of your trip.

City Views and a Footpath to the Summit

Cristo Redentor de Mimoso do Sul stands on a hill and offers panoramic views of the city. Pedra Estrela Dalva offers a different experience: its summit can be reached by a footpath that begins in the municipality of Farol, in the district of São José das Torres in Mimoso do Sul. The attraction is currently open to visitors. Visits to attractions on private property should be announced to the owners in advance.

The city panorama and summit trail represent different ways of experiencing the landscape: one offers views across the city, while the other is a footpath with the summit as its destination. Which of these perspectives you want to shape your trip may also play a part in choosing where to stay.

Handicrafts, Historic Streets and Festival Days

Nearby São Pedro do Itabapoana is known for bordado, a form of hand embroidery practiced throughout the year using a variety of patterns. Tablecloths, table runners, dish towels, sheets and hand towels are embroidered. In the afternoons, you can see women embroidering outside their homes. The streets in the historic district are paved with “pé de moleque” cobblestones—a distinctive feature of the townscape.

Winter there brings the annual Festival de Inverno da Sanfona e da Viola. It takes place on the last weekend of July and draws visitors from all over Brazil; the exact dates may vary from year to year. The festival therefore provides a specific date for anyone wishing to plan their trip around a cultural event.

Another traditional period is the Folia de Reis in Mimoso do Sul and Muqui: it runs from December 25 to January 6 and also includes January 20. In rural and urban areas, groups of twelve people go from house to house, ask to come in, and perform songs and music indoors about the prophecies surrounding the birth of Jesus. The July weekend in São Pedro and the Folia dates around the turn of the year and in January therefore offer different seasonal anchors for culturally focused trips.

Cuisine and the History of the Municipality

The cuisine also reflects a variety of influences: Mimoso do Sul’s Syrian-Lebanese-inspired cooking includes kibe, tabule, merche or charuto, as well as mijadra. These dishes are part of the culinary tradition both at the Amani restaurant and in the city’s households.

The archaeological site of Porto Limeira lies within the municipality, 42 kilometers from the municipal seat of Mimoso do Sul. Its remains include a chapel, a cemetery, a former pharmacy, houses and an alley. The first settlers of the municipality came from Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro along this route. The site thus brings together visible remnants and a specific historical role in the settlement of the area.

Getting There and Choosing Accommodation

From Vitória, take the BR-101 Sul to Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, then continue on the ES-177 toward Mimoso do Sul. Check the road conditions before setting out. When choosing your holiday rental, the city and its cuisine, the hike to Pedra Estrela Dalva or the cultural attractions in nearby São Pedro do Itabapoana may be deciding factors. Consider which of these interests you want to focus on when planning your stay.
