Barroquinha lies within the Área de Proteção Ambiental Delta do Parnaíba and has a coastline about 25 km long, with beaches and coastal landforms. Dunes, sunsets, fishing and religious festivals give the municipality its distinctive character. So, when planning a trip, you can first consider which places and experiences you want to focus on—and tailor your search for a holiday rental accordingly.

Bitupitá: Beach, views and Carnival

Bitupitá is the municipality’s main beach. Carnival is centred here on the beach, where local and regional bands perform a varied repertoire. Bitupitá’s dunes and sunsets also attract tourists travelling along the Rota das Emoções. At the Farol de Bitupitá, residents and tourists gather to look out from above over the region’s beaches, dunes and forests. Bitupitá is therefore a place to experience both the coastal landscape and a local festival. When planning your trip, it is helpful to weigh up these interests rather than treating the beach destination as just one sightseeing stop.

Fishing and other coastal experiences

There are numerous fishing weirs at Praia das Curimãs. Artisanal fishing is the main economic activity for the residents of the beaches of Bitupitá and Curimã. This work is as much a part of the coast’s character as its landscape. You can also watch the sunset from Praia das Curimãs; Bica das Curimãs is another attraction for tourists. These experiences offer different points of interest: you might be drawn to fishing and coastal life, or to views of the evening sky.

Praia Nova also offers its own options to consider when planning your trip. Alongside the beach, you can visit Lagoa da Praia Nova. Praia Nova is also known for a traditional canoe regatta on Holy Saturday. Praia de Bitupitá is likewise associated with canoe regattas.

Festivals and history in Barroquinha

The religious festival of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes has been celebrated in Barroquinha for more than a hundred years. After a chapel was completed, the first religious festival in honour of the Virgin Mary under this title was held there. The festival takes place annually from 5 to 15 August. Alongside beach and nature experiences, Barroquinha therefore offers a long-standing religious tradition.

This historical significance offers a different perspective on the destination from its beaches and coastal landforms. The distance given is measured from the municipal seat and can help you consider Barra dos Remédios as a destination in its own right.

Getting there and choosing where to stay

Barroquinha can be reached via the BR-222, CE-085, CE-168 and CE-362 highways. The BR-402 is also considered one of the main access roads to the APA Delta do Parnaíba for Barroquinha. When choosing a holiday rental, its location within the municipality may therefore be a key consideration.
