Around Colônia Paricatuba, traces of history meet a landscape shaped by the Rio Negro and its changing water levels. In Vila de Paricatuba, a Belle Époque mansion, other ruins, and paths to scenic viewpoints take center stage. Beach visits and regional cuisine are also among the varied experiences you can consider when planning your stay.

Heritage and Paths to the Ruins

At the heart of Vila de Paricatuba stands a Belle Époque mansion surrounded by century-old trees, with climbing plants covering its walls. In 2015, the village was recognized as an intangible historical and cultural heritage site of the state of Amazonas. The Belizário Pena building was constructed in 1898 using materials imported from Europe. It initially housed Italian immigrants who had come to Amazonas in search of work. The village is a community-based tourism initiative in the interior of the state of Amazonas.

A footpath from the mansion leads to other ruins. Along the way, there are views of the Rio Negro and the beach, and the path also provides access to restaurants. Praia de Paricatuba is another useful landmark: the beach lies toward Mirante da Virgem, at a former port where boats once docked after arriving at the village.

Route, Canoe Ride, and Local Cuisine

Listed in a 2026 visitor program, the Caminhos de Paricatuba route begins at the ruins and leads to the village’s main historic cultural sites. The program includes a tasting of Bolo de Capim-Santo led by residents in a traditional straw hat, as well as a canoe ride through an igapó. If you plan to take part, check in advance whether the route is available on your visit date.

At Praia dos Restaurantes, eateries serve regional breakfast, typical regional fish dishes for lunch, as well as drinks and other beverages. Check what is available on site. Praia do Lago has bars and restaurants for tourists and visitors. To cross over there, you need to take a motorboat or canoe after reaching the riverbank; water conditions and local transport options may vary.

Beaches Through the Changing Seasons

Paricatuba’s beaches are visited by tourists and residents of the region in summer. Water levels also change conditions: during the high-water season, from December to June, Praia de Paricatuba can be almost entirely flooded at its peak. The dry season from July to November is a good time to visit Praia da Bica, next to Praia do Inglês; access is more limited when river levels are high.

Praia do Inglês is a private beach on the access road behind the ruins. Access is via a wooden staircase; check access conditions before setting out. Seasonal differences are therefore a practical factor to consider when including beaches in your travel plans.

Location and Accommodation Planning

A 2021 description locates Vila de Paricatuba at kilometer 21 of Rodovia Manoel Urbano (AM 070), in the municipality of Iranduba. The overland drive from Manaus was listed as taking about 40 minutes; traffic and road conditions can affect the journey time. This information refers to Vila de Paricatuba.

When looking for a vacation apartment or house, consider whether historic sites, seasonal beaches, or a water-based experience will be the main focus of your stay. Water levels affect beach conditions, while the route and private beach access each come with their own visiting conditions. Plan your accommodation around the experiences you want to include, taking their respective timing and practical requirements into account.
