Los Antiguos is part of the Corredor del Viento, a tourist route through the Patagonian steppe in the north of the province. At the same time, cherries are a defining feature of the town: Los Antiguos is known as the National Cherry Capital, and cherry production has been established here for more than 50 years. As a result, two distinct themes come together in the local landscape: the steppe and a long-standing local industry. Both may be important to your trip, along with wildlife watching, water sports and crafts.

Steppe, Lagoon and Water

The Reserva Natural Urbana Laguna de Los Juncos can be explored on foot or by bicycle. There is an opportunity to observe more than 60 resident and migratory bird species there. If you would like to make wildlife watching a focus of your stay, the lagoon is a specific place to visit.

The surroundings of Lago Buenos Aires offer a different kind of activity: water sports are among the classic activities in Los Antiguos.

The Mirador del río Jeinimeni is the starting point for the audio guide route along Provincial Route No. 41. The audio guide accompanies visitors on the approximately 115-kilometer route between Los Antiguos and Lago Posadas.

Cherry Traditions and Regional Produce

The Fiesta Nacional de la Cereza has been held in Los Antiguos since 1991 and attracts visitors from different parts of Argentina every year. The cherry tradition can also be experienced through its produce: from December to early March, visitors can taste export-quality cherries. The festival and the tasting are two different ways to explore cherries as part of local life.

Some fruit farms welcome visitors. There, you can tour the orchards, take part in the harvest, and sample and buy fine sweets, liqueurs and preserves. The owners of Chacra “Don Valentín” look after it year-round. It offers homemade bread and tortas fritas to sample with artisanal preserves made from its own produce: apple, apricot, plum and strawberry.

Chacra “La Laguna” also offers regional produce: apricot, plum, cherry and strawberry preserves, as well as liqueurs and cakes. If you would like to discover a range of fruit products, you will find a different offering here from the fruit farms, which include tours of the orchards, harvesting and tastings.

Traditional Textile Crafts

With its wool textiles, Chacra “La Escondida” complements the food-related offerings with a craft experience. The textiles are made using traditional weaving techniques on the southern loom, the Indigenous loom and the triangular frame. These different weaving techniques are part of what defines the offering and make it a distinct cultural focus alongside cherry production, fruit and nature experiences. If you are looking for a vacation rental in Los Antiguos for your trip, these interests can help you decide which side of the town you would especially like to discover.
