At the foot of the Sierras de los Comechingones, Villa Larca combines mountain scenery with water, hiking trails and traces of earlier mining activity. This makes the town appealing to travellers who want to spend their days in different ways: following paths through a landscape shaped by stone and water, visiting viewpoints in the Valle de Concarán or taking a trip to a waterfall. Which of these experiences appeals to you most may also influence your choice of holiday apartment in Villa Larca.

Rocks, Water and Views

The Reserva Aguas Buenas reveals several sides of the surrounding area. Natural pools, waterfalls and rock formations shape the landscape; the rocks at the water’s edge are suitable for swimming. Easily accessible trails are also part of the area’s character. The focus here is on natural features that clearly differ from one another: water in pools and waterfalls, striking rock formations and paths through the reserve.

If you enjoy exploring on foot, the reserve has hiking and trekking trails of varying difficulty. They connect waterfalls and viewpoints. These differences give you a practical guide for planning your day: you can focus on a hike or make your way to individual landscape highlights. The routes are not all equally challenging; their difficulty ratings can help you choose accordingly.

Piedra de Luz offers a different perspective on the region. A circular trail there leads to viewpoints overlooking the Quebrada del Tala and the wide Valle de Concarán. While water and rock formations define the scenery at Reserva Aguas Buenas, the emphasis here is on views across the landscape. If you like to alternate between trails featuring natural details and panoramic views, you’ll find different ideas here for planning your own excursions.

Waterfall and Trails Along the Stream

Chorro de San Ignacio is a 25-metre-high waterfall on a river that rises between the Sierras de los Comechingones. The waterfall lies between Papagayos and Villa Larca. From Villa Larca, you can reach it via Provincial Route 1: drive 3 kilometres south. At the end of the paved road, a 500-metre footpath continues towards the Sierras along the stream. The route therefore includes both a drive and a walk; both sections are important to bear in mind when planning your visit.

The Laguna Milagrosa lies 400 metres upstream on the Arroyo and can be reached by following the stream. The Laguna del Deseo is a further 200 metres along the footpath beyond the Laguna Milagrosa. Between Papagayos and Villa Larca, there is also a municipal tourist complex with camping areas, parking spaces, quinchos, an Olympic-size swimming pool and a bathing area in the stream.

Get Active and Discover History

Villa Larca’s adventure activities include hikes on mountain trails, horseback riding, cycling, 4×4 excursions and climbs up the surrounding mountains. This range of options caters to different interests: you can centre your trip on walking trails, horseback rides, cycling or off-road driving. If you’re travelling with others, you can plan around which of these activities your group would most like to prioritise, rather than making every outing the same.

The area’s history is also visible in the landscape. Tunnels and disused quarries from earlier mining activity have been preserved in the Reserva Aguas Buenas. They form part of the area’s natural and historical heritage. A visit thus combines experiences of nature with evidence of earlier land use, without requiring a separate museum visit.

Another historical trace leads to the Cueva del Indio, a natural cave in a large rock. What are believed to be the remains of a member of the Indigenous Comechingones people were found there. The cautious wording matters: these are believed to be remains. Together with the visible traces of mining, the cave broadens the view of Villa Larca beyond its mountain and water scenery.
