Villa Pehuenia: Lake, landscape and regional culture
Accommodation in Villa Pehuenia
Lago Aluminé shapes Villa Pehuenia: it touches most of the town’s coastline. The destination’s diversity can be experienced on the water, at viewpoints and through encounters with regional crafts. When planning your holiday apartment stay, you can consider whether your trip will focus mainly on water activities, scenic views or cultural discoveries.
Time on the water at Lago Aluminé
At Lago Aluminé, you can go out on sailboats, motorboats, small boats, kayaks, canoes and pedal boats. Sport or recreational fishing is also an option, either from a boat or from the shore. This gives you different ways to spend time on the lake, depending on your interests. If you are travelling with children, you can decide together whether a boat trip, a paddling excursion or a quieter stay by the shore best suits your plans.
Muelle Turístico and Paseo Recreativo are on the north shore of the lake. At the Muelle, there are providers of nautical activities, water sports and water-based recreation, as well as travel agencies and adventure tourism operators. Large parking areas, ramps for people with reduced mobility and public toilets are also part of the Muelle Turístico’s facilities. These facilities can help you find your way around when you arrive; the ramps are particularly useful for visitors with reduced mobility.
Views of the lake and mountains
The Portal Villa Pehuenia viewpoint offers panoramic views of Lago Aluminé. You can also see the corridor of the lake’s main islands and Cerro Chañy from there. If you prefer to take in the landscape from different perspectives, you can include this viewpoint in your travel plans alongside activities on the water.
Another way to discover the area is the Circuito Pehuenia. This 120 km scenic route runs mainly along RP11 through much of the Villa Pehuenia-Moquehue tourist area. It can start in Villa Pehuenia or Moquehue. The route’s length and its two possible starting points are useful details to consider when deciding how much of your trip to devote to it. Radal-Co is a well-known beach in Villa Pehuenia Moquehue, accessible on foot or by vehicle.
Crafts and regional encounters
Paseo de los Artesanos is a modern building in the centre of Villa Pehuenia Moquehue. It is dedicated to preserving regional cultural identity and promoting the economic development of the local craftspeople. Ten shops selling regional products give visitors a direct connection to local crafts.
Nuestra Señora del Pehuén is also part of local cultural history: she was named the patron saint of Villa Pehuenia on 2 February 2008. Her depiction features an araucaria tree, Lago Aluminé and Batea Mahuida volcano. Along the Cinco Lagunas circuit, residents of homes in the Mapuche community welcome visitors with their animals, crafts and local customs. This adds encounters with regional traditions to the scenic experience.
When planning your accommodation, you can weigh up these different focuses: time on the lake, viewpoints and the scenic route, or cultural discoveries. You can also explore Moquehue and Aluminé as other destinations.
