Santa María de Trassierra – Nature Trails and Cultural Heritage

In Santa María de Trassierra, clear waterfalls and cascades alternate with tranquil pools along the Arroyo Bejarano; around the Baños de Popea, there is an approximately six-kilometre-long, accessible and easy circular hiking trail that, despite some inclines, is suitable for outdoor activities with the whole family. Nature

The Sendero Fluvial Arroyo Bejarano runs within the Reserva Natural Fluvial del Arroyo Bejarano, which is located in Santa María de Trassierra near Córdoba. The Reserva Natural Fluvial del Arroyo Bejarano was designated in November 2015 and is notable for its ecological and landscape significance. Cerro del Pozo de la Nieve is a publicly accessible park immediately next to Santa María de Trassierra. Culture

The Fuente del Elefante is located in Santa María de Trassierra and forms part of the historical heritage of the city of Córdoba. The Iglesia de Santa María de Trassierra is recognised as a Bien de Interés Cultural and is listed in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Heritage. It consists of three naves separated by pillars with pointed horseshoe arches and has a wood-panelled ceiling as well as a gabled roof covered with tiles. Its foundation is dated to the 13th to 14th centuries.

Trails

The PR-A 211 Circular de Trassierra begins next to the municipal civic centre or at the main square of Santa María de Trassierra. From the town centre, it initially follows the Vereda de la Canchuela. The 14.5 km circular route runs through Mediterranean scrubland, cork oak stands, dehesas characterised by holm oaks and a chestnut grove; it has a moderate difficulty level and is 100% suitable for cycling. The PR-A 342 first leads into a cork oak dehesa with Mediterranean scrubland and then to the Fuente de La Marquesa. The water from this spring comes from the Roman-origin Valdepuentes Aqueduct. The PR-A 343 runs through the streets of Santa María de Trassierra to the church or the central square of the village. AUCORSA route T connects Córdoba and Trassierra and serves the La Virgencita (B. Popea) and Plaza Trassierra stops.
