Mar Chiquita brings together an extensive coastline, a distinctive lagoon landscape and inland towns. The Partido de Mar Chiquita has 67 kilometres of beaches. At the same time, the Albufera de Mar Chiquita shapes the region: it is a shallow coastal lagoon connected to the sea that cyclically or occasionally receives fresh water from the mainland. This gives you a choice of different focuses for your trip: the coast or the inland areas.

Coast, Lagoon and Protected Habitats

The Reserva de Biosfera Parque Atlántico Mar Chiquito encompasses the sea coast, beaches, coastal dunes, grassland, lagoons and Pampas wetlands. The Reserva Natural Mar Chiquita is centred on three main habitats: the Albufera, coastal Pampas grassland and the dune belt. If you are interested in nature and landscapes, you will find a range of habitat types within the Partido—from the lagoon to the dunes and wetlands.

If you plan to focus your stay on the protected area, the location of the public entrance is a useful guide when choosing where to stay. The public entrance to the Reserva Natural Mar Chiquita is at kilometre 483 of Ruta Provincial N.º 11, via Balneario Parque Mar Chiquita. Balneario Parque Mar Chiquita is also located at kilometre 483 of this road. The region offers two connected visitor areas: the inland and the coast. When choosing your holiday rental, first consider which part of your trip you want to focus on.

Walking by the Albufera and Coastal Activities

In the Reserva Natural Mar Chiquita, visitors can walk to the Boca de la Albúfera. The Sendero de la Albufera follows the lagoon shore to where it meets the sea. It begins with an interactive talk in the Sala de Interpretación de la Naturaleza. This lets you combine the walk with an introduction to nature interpretation before following the shore.

Fishing, surfing and windsurfing are among the activities available in the Partido’s coastal towns. These activities offer a different travel interest alongside a visit to nature: while the walk by the Albufera focuses on the lagoon, the coastal towns offer opportunities for water-based activities. If you prefer rural tourism, you can find it in the inland towns of Coronel Vidal, Vivoratá, General Pirán, Calfucurá and Nahuel Rucá. You can choose between the coast and inland areas based on which experiences matter most to you on your trip.

Discoveries Between Culture and Landscape

Individual towns also offer distinctive cultural points of interest. In Balneario Parque Mar Chiquita is Escuela Primaria N.º 12, considered Argentina’s first sustainable educational institution. It produces its own food and was built from recycled materials. In Coronel Vidal, Museo Victor Abel Gimenez recognises and promotes the extensive work of Víctor Abel Giménez.

By the sea in Camet Norte, the Paseo paleontológico uses life-size figures of Pampas megafauna to evoke a 20,000-year-old palaeontological site. In Santa Clara del Mar, Parque Municipal El Diego features a 13-metre-high sculpture considered the largest monument to Diego Armando Maradona in South America. These varied themes—from natural history to art and education—add further dimensions to exploring the Partido.

The towns in the Partido also include Mar De Cobo, Santa Clara Del Mar, Mar Chiquita and Quintas El Casal. You can consider these place names as you plan the rest of your trip and choose accommodation based on whether you want to explore the coast, the inland areas or different sides of Mar Chiquita.
