Mar De Ajó combines wide beaches with a local history reflected in museums, a shipwreck and distinctive buildings. Motorsport and a festival celebrated since 1969 add to the mix. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose from several interests: the coast, local history, culture or motor racing. If you are looking for a holiday rental, first consider which focus you want to shape your stay.

Coast and motorsport

The beaches of Mar de Ajó merge with those of Nueva Atlantis. This connection is a distinctive feature of the coastline. One prominent coastal structure is the Muelle de Mar de Ajó, a 270-metre-long fishing pier. It is the largest of the five fishing piers in Partido de La Costa and was built entirely of reinforced concrete. Alongside the wide beaches, this single structure—with its clearly specified length and construction—stands out. Those interested in the coast will find both beach scenery and a pier with a clearly stated length and construction method.

The Autódromo of Mar de Ajó offers a very different focus. Its race track is 4,700 metres long, and races in various categories are held there. Motorsport is therefore one of the town’s defining features, complementing the coastal attractions with a distinct area of interest. If you are interested in motor racing, the Autódromo is a characteristic landmark for this aspect of Mar de Ajó.

Museums and local history

The Museo de Mar de Ajó displays photographs, clothing and paintings, as well as a radio from an earlier era and fossils of animals from the coastal ecosystem. The collection brings together different subjects: images and clothing, a radio from the past, and fossils from the coastal environment. If you are travelling with children, you can use this variety as an opportunity to explore different interests together. The museum also has a multipurpose room for workshops, events and meetings with educational institutions.

The Museo y Archivo Histórico Mar de Ajó offers another historical perspective. It is housed in a building that once served as the town’s first-aid station. The shipwreck “La Margaretha” is closely connected with the beginnings of Mar de Ajó and is locally known for the folk legends associated with it. Here, two different approaches to local history meet: the former function of a particular building and the traditions surrounding a wreck.

Festival and cultural venues

The Fiesta Nacional de la Corvina Rubia has been celebrated since 1969 and brings the local community and visitors together every year. The monument “El Libertador y el Mar” is a landmark in the town. CINE CCALIFORNIA and Teatro Ocean are also named cultural venues: the cinema is located at Hipólito Yrigoyen No. 18, and the theatre at Hipólito Yrigoyen No. 30. Together with the museum, the festival and the folk legends associated with “La Margaretha”, these examples show different facets of the town’s cultural landscape.
