Mar Del Sur offers several reasons to explore the coast: beaches, the distinctive nature of Rocas Negras, and cultural sites with their own history. Between days at the beach, fishing, theatre and striking buildings, you can choose different focuses for your stay. Which surroundings you prefer as your base depends on which of these sides of the town matter most to you.

Beaches and nature at Rocas Negras

Chalets and Coco Loco are two beaches in Mar Del Sur. Another coastal spot is Rocas Negras. There, rocks are covered with black mussels; anemones, seahorses, small crabs and molluscs are also found. If you are interested in nature by the sea, you will find more than just a beach setting here: the rocks and the animals mentioned give this stretch of coast its distinctive character.

The Rocas Negras sector forms part of the northern sector of the Centinela del Mar Provincial Nature Reserve. This sector is intended for scientific research and public enjoyment. Rocas Negras is also known for its abundant fishing. Nature and fishing are therefore two distinct reasons to visit the area; when planning your excursions, consider them as separate interests.

El Remanso is also on the coast, on the north coast of Mar Del Sur. Various beach sports can be enjoyed there, with fishing particularly notable. If you like to plan active days at the beach, this location is a useful point of reference. El Remanso is about 2 km from Arroyo La Carolina. The approximate distance and its location on the north coast give you concrete reference points to consider when exploring this part of Mar Del Sur.

Architecture, theatre and local culture

Among the most striking buildings is the Casa de las Caracolas, a holiday home entirely clad in shells. Geometric shapes and drawings add to its design. The house is an unusual architectural highlight and stands in clear contrast to the town’s historic buildings. The Hotel Boulevard Atlantic was built in 1880 and declared a municipal site of tourist interest in 1988. Its historic appearance can be viewed from the outside.

The Teatro del Sur offers another cultural perspective. It is located at the intersection of Calle 31 and Calle 102 in Villa Balnearia Mar Del Sur. The auditorium has a capacity of 150 people. The theatre opened on 10 January 2016 with the first Festival of the Arts in Mar Del Sur; the programme at the time included theatre, cinema, music and dance. The date and festival form part of the venue’s opening history, while its capacity gives a concrete sense of the auditorium’s size.

Visual art and religious tradition are also among the town’s distinctive points of interest. In 2021, the family of Gennaro de Tommaso donated his sculptures so they could become part of the cultural heritage of the Mar Del Sur community and be made accessible to visitors and tourists. An image of the Virgin Mary also stands on Rocas Negras beach. Devotees come there to leave offerings. The town thus offers different cultural impressions side by side: sculpted works, theatre history and a religious site on the beach.

Choosing the right location for your stay

Specific locations can help when choosing a holiday rental. Rocas Negras is 2 km from the centre of Mar Del Sur. If you would like to focus on this area, you can take the distance into account when choosing where to stay. El Remanso offers a different geographical reference: it is on the north coast and about 2 km from Arroyo La Carolina. These locations provide orientation; the location of your holiday rental should be considered separately.

Your interests can guide your choice of focus for your stay, whether it is the coast and fishing, nature at Rocas Negras, or theatre and architecture. For more ideas of places to visit, you can also explore Miramar.
