Florencio Varela combines insights into the district’s history with extensive natural areas, activities related to rural life, and festivals featuring local products. When planning your trip, it is worth first considering which of these aspects interests you most: museums and culture, observing nature, or events held in different parts of the Partido.

Museums offering different perspectives

At the Museo Histórico Provincial Guillermo E. Hudson, the Casa Natal is a key destination for anyone interested in culture. The building was constructed in the late 18th century and comprises three rooms. Books, documents and objects from Guillermo Hudson’s life and work are on display there. The modest number of rooms makes for a focused look at a single biography and its surroundings.

The Museo Comunitario de Artes Visuales e Histórico, in Florencio Varela’s historic centre, offers a different perspective on the area. It is housed in the former town hall and focuses on the history and culture of the district. Exhibitions, workshops and other presentations are among the ways it shares its subject matter with visitors. If you would like to learn about local history beyond the story of a single figure and also look at the district as a whole, this museum complements a visit to the Casa Natal with a broader thematic perspective.

Nature in Parque Pereyra Iraola

Parque Provincial Pereyra Iraola extends across the Partidos of Berazategui, Florencio Varela, Ensenada and La Plata. In 2007, it was included in UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves. This means the natural attractions extend beyond Florencio Varela and span several administrative areas. The park is an obvious choice if you would also like to make landscapes and nature a focus of your trip.

More than 150 species of native birds live on the grounds of the Museo Histórico Provincial Guillermo Enrique Hudson. Woodland, grassland and wetlands provide different habitats there, and the grounds also feature bridges and viewing points. Naturaleza Viva has a different focus: its 15-hectare site brings together a tree nursery, organic farming, farm animals and a navigable canal. At the Agreste educational farm, visitors can learn about rural work and the birds and mammals that live there. Each of these destinations appeals to different interests, from observing nature to learning about agriculture.

Festivals and local products

Several events showcase local products and traditions. The Señor de los Milagros de Mailín Festival is held every September at Plaza Nuestro Señor de los Milagros de Mailín, in front of the chapel in the Santo Tomás neighbourhood. The programme includes a main Mass, traditional food, a handicrafts market and musical performances.

The Fiesta de la Miel has been held every May since 2018 at the Museo Guillermo Enrique Hudson in Ingeniero Allan. The focus is on local beekeeping products, which are exhibited and sold; honey tastings and informational workshops are also part of the event. A handicrafts market, artistic performances and food offerings round out the festival. The Fiesta de la Frutilla is held in November at the Museo Enrique Hudson in Ingeniero Allan. Its programme features local fruit, live music, folk dancing, traditional food and organic cuisine. The Fiesta de la identidad productiva e industrial varelense brings together the district’s flower, horticulture, beekeeping and business sectors. Visitors can buy local products and sample food offerings during a family walk around the event.

Recreation and choosing where to stay

The Partido also offers leisure activities with a range of different focuses. Campo Villa Borghesi has three swimming pools, open from December to February, as well as barbecue areas, football pitches, children’s play areas and a multipurpose hall. A municipal programme takes children from football clubs, associations and other organisations to visit the facilities, stadium and sports complex of Club Defensa y Justicia.

When choosing a holiday rental, your preferred focus may be the deciding factor: would you like to include museums and cultural attractions, explore natural areas, or plan your trip around a festival? The attractions mentioned are spread across different facilities and venues. According to the municipal tourism information, Complejo Recreativo Los Horneros is 10 minutes from the Buenos Aires–La Plata Highway and Provincial Route 36. For further orientation within the Partido, Ingeniero J. Allan is also worth considering.
