In Avellaneda Partido, the landscapes of the Río de la Plata and the wetlands meet surprising stories of film, railways and industry. The Eco Área, access to the river coast, more than 900 murals and a museum with original materials from Leonardo Favio offer very different highlights. When choosing a holiday rental, you can first consider whether nature, culture or both will shape your trip.

River Landscape and Protected Nature

The Partido borders the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires to the north, Quilmes Partido to the south and Lanús Partido to the west. The Río de la Plata forms its eastern boundary. The Matanza-Riachuelo basin creates a natural divide between the Partido and the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires. This location between the city, waterways and wetlands gives the Partido several distinct sides.

The Eco Área has been a municipal nature reserve since 2018. It covers 140 hectares in total, including a 45-hectare core zone. Environmental education, talks, guided tours and scientific research take place there. A wooden walkway runs through the wetlands to the Río de la Plata. When planning your trip, you can therefore include a natural area with a specific route through the landscape, rather than thinking of the visit simply as a general stay by the water.

Parque del Río also offers a view of the river landscape: it gives visitors access to the Río de la Plata coast and has a cycle path. If you enjoy walking outdoors or would like to include a bike ride in your stay, this offers a different focus from the cultural attractions of the Partido. Considering which of these experiences best suits your trip can be a helpful starting point when choosing where to stay.

Lagoon and Active Experiences

La Saladita, an artificial lagoon dating from the 19th century, is located in Sarandí. The Escuela Municipal de Canotaje is based there, where you can enjoy canoeing free of charge. The combination of a historic lagoon and canoeing makes this a special choice for travellers who want to spend time on the water actively. For a family trip, it offers a specific activity to enjoy together, distinct from a visit to the wetlands or river coast.

Parque del Fútbol offers another sporting option, with its skatepark. If you are taking the different interests of your travel group into account, you can include activities like these alongside nature and cultural destinations, without limiting your stay to a single theme.

Mural Art, Film and Railway History

Pintó la Isla has transformed a neighbourhood with more than 900 murals into an open-air museum. Their sheer number makes mural art a cultural highlight in its own right in the Partido. Allow time to explore and focus on the individual images, rather than seeing them only as a backdrop in passing.

At the Museo Leonardo Favio, the exhibition space recreates some of the best-known film sets and contains numerous original materials from Favio. Film enthusiasts will find a different way into cultural history here than through outdoor mural art. The museum and Pintó la Isla thus offer two distinct reasons to plan time in the area beyond its landscapes.

The Planta Elevadora de Líquidos Cloacales in Wilde tells a distinctive story of industry. Originally known as Puente Chico, it was the first facility of its kind in Argentina and one of the oldest in South America; it is a National Historic Monument. At Parque del Fútbol, you can explore history through surviving railway features such as silos and sleepers. In Sarandí, the former station building preserves its original architecture, designed by architect Alejandro Bustillo.

Choosing Where to Stay

The Roca railway line crosses the Partido and serves the stations of Avellaneda, Sarandí, Villa Domínico, Wilde and Gerli. The city of Avellaneda is also a useful point of reference within the Partido. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can use these places and the experiences you are interested in as a guide for planning your trip. The key question is whether you want to focus on nature and water, active pursuits, or art and history. That way, your choice of where to stay reflects the character you want your trip to have.
