Discover Ngoma
Accommodation in Ngoma
For planning a trip to Ngoma, Kafue National Park is a useful starting point: one of the airstrips serving the park year-round is located near Ngoma. Other airstrips are near Chunga and Lufupa. Visitors can use these access points to visit the park in every season. If you are planning to fly to the park, check the latest operating conditions before travelling.
Roads and seasons
Different guidance applies to certain roads in the wider region. From November to June, you should avoid the road from Hook Bridge to Lufupa, as well as the road leading farther north to Moshi, Kabanga and Busanga. The road from the M9 to Chunga is well maintained and generally passable year-round. In the southern part of Kafue National Park, travelling from Ngoma and Itezhi-Tezhi towards Dundumwezi and Nanzhila is not advisable in wet conditions and requires local knowledge. When planning, therefore, take both the season and the specific route into account, and ask locally about conditions before setting off.
Southern Province: rivers and World Heritage
The wider destination of Southern Province also offers a varied regional setting. Its network of rivers and lakes includes the Zambezi, the Kafue and Lake Kariba. Livingstone, Zambia’s tourism capital, is in the province. The city is home to the transboundary UNESCO World Heritage Site Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls, which is shared with Zimbabwe. The Zambian portion of the World Heritage Site covers 3,779 hectares of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.
Landscapes and experiences in the national parks
Several national parks are part of the Southern Province’s regional landscape: Lochinvar, Blue Lagoon and Mosi-oa-Tunya are located there, while Kafue National Park extends partly into the province. In Kafue, most camps and lodges near the river offer boat trips year-round. At the same time, water levels change significantly over the course of the year. Canoe trips are offered in particular near Kaingu; specific offerings and their availability may vary.
Lochinvar National Park brings together a variety of landscapes, including floodplains, woodland and termite mounds. The Gwisho Hot Springs lie along a geological fault in the park. Sebanzi Hill is home to an archaeological site with an Iron Age village that was inhabited until the last century. Lochinvar also offers opportunities for birdwatching; more than 420 species have been recorded there. Its waterscapes, archaeological history and birdlife each add a distinct element to the wider regional travel experience.
Choose your accommodation to suit your travel plans
If you are looking for a holiday rental in Ngoma, first consider whether Kafue National Park is the main focus of your trip or whether you also want to include other landscapes and activities in Southern Province. Your plans will then depend on the specific route, the season and—if flying to the park—the latest operating conditions.
