Te Puna: Views, Nature and Cider Culture
Accommodation in Te Puna
Te Puna offers several reasons to explore the area: Minden Lookout opens up panoramic views, a walking loop winds through a reserve at Minden Scenic Reserve, and The Cider Factorie brings local fruit together in ciders to taste and take away. There are also other green spaces and a regional park. You can choose different focuses for your stay—from views and nature to culinary discoveries.
Panoramic views from Minden Lookout
The popular Minden Lookout sits at an elevation of 286 metres, near the intersection of Minden Road and Junction Road in Te Puna. From there, panoramic views extend across Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Matakana Island and the surrounding coast. An accessible path leads to the viewing platform. If you like to include a viewpoint in your stay, this is a specific destination with wide-ranging views over several landmarks and the coastal landscape. The lookout is also on Minden Road.
A short walking loop at Minden Scenic Reserve
Minden Scenic Reserve is on Minden Road and can be reached via Ainsworth Road. The reserve has a 15-minute walking loop, and there is a small car park at the start of the track. This defined loop offers a different way to enjoy the outdoors than the view from the viewing platform: here, the focus is on a walk through the reserve rather than a panorama.
I’Anson Reserve is also in the Te Puna area. Its features include young stands of native trees, an artificial lake, grassy areas and walking paths. Car parks, a toilet and picnic tables add to the facilities. If you like to include a break by a lake or on a grassy area when spending time outdoors, you will find different features here than at Minden Lookout or on the loop at Scenic Reserve.
Parkland and local cider
Huharua Harbour Park, a regional park, is at the end of Plummers Point Road in Te Puna. It is jointly owned by the Western Bay of Plenty District Council and Tauranga City Council. The park was acquired for public use in the wider area of Tauranga City and Western Bay of Plenty. This makes it another distinct point to consider when choosing where to stay; the parks mentioned differ in their respective features and locations.
The Cider Factorie Restaurant + Cellar Door in Te Puna’s green belt, Tauranga, offers a culinary discovery. There are harbour and mountain views, as well as a menu of fresh bites. Since 2012, The Cider Factorie has made a range of award-winning ciders from apples, pears, feijoas and citrus fruits. You can taste and enjoy the ciders on site or take them away. A visit also offers insight into the variety of fruits used to make the drinks.
