Stanmore Bay offers more than one reason to look towards the beach: Stanmore Bay Park stretches down to Stanmore Bay Beach, while D’Oyly Reserve tells a different landscape story with its restored stream. There is also a 3.0 km route and facilities at the Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether parks and beaches, paths or leisure options should be the focus of your holiday days.

Park, Beach and a Described Route

Stanmore Bay Park is a large park with sports fields, playgrounds and a skatepark. The Hibiscus Coast Association Football Club is based there. The park therefore offers a range of leisure areas, while its extension down to the beach also makes the area’s seaside character clear. If you are planning both park and beach days during your stay, you will find two distinct options here, without needing to treat them as one and the same.

The Whangaparāoa Path provides a specific route: it is 3.0 km long and runs from the centre of Whangaparāoa to Stanmore Bay Beach via the Rata Road walkway. Its length and endpoints offer clear guidance when you are considering whether the route fits into your day’s plans. While the park is described in terms of its sports and play areas, this path is a named route between two places. Check local route information before setting out.

The Stream and Paths at D’Oyly Reserve

D’Oyly Reserve in Stanmore Bay offers a different view of the landscape. The stream running through the reserve was restored to a more natural state from an underground pipe through a process known as daylighting. The project was completed in June 2019. The term describes the transformation of the stream: instead of flowing through an underground pipe, it was restored to a more natural state.

The project included areas for outdoor learning, cycle paths, walking paths and play areas. Facilities on site may continue to evolve. D’Oyly Reserve is therefore a destination for travellers who are interested not only in sports and play facilities, but also in a transformed landscape and different kinds of paths. Compared with Stanmore Bay Park, the stream’s restoration is more prominent here; the park, in turn, brings together sports fields, playgrounds and a skatepark and extends down to the beach.

Swimming, Play and Seasonal Facilities

The Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre has four badminton courts; facilities may change. The learn-to-swim pool is intended for children up to and including eight years old. Another facility is the Splashpad, which is open only during the summer months, approximately from November/December to March/April. Its availability varies from one summer season to another. If the badminton courts or Splashpad are important to your plans, check the Centre’s current information in advance.

The conditions differ considerably: an age group is specified for the learn-to-swim pool, while the Splashpad has an approximate seasonal period. This can be helpful when planning with children, as can the park areas or the described route. This gives you a chance to weigh up whether you would rather focus your holiday days on the beach and park, swimming, or the landscape and paths in the reserve.

Find the Right Holiday Apartment for Your Plans

If the Splashpad is important to your stay, also factor in its approximate summer opening period when considering your dates.
