Yarrambat brings together golf facilities, picnic spots and a history of its own. At Yarrambat Park Golf Course, practice options range from a driving range to putting and chipping greens. Yarrambat Park offers something different: electric barbecues, picnic tables and a picnic shelter. If you’d like to plan your trip beyond the town, you can also consider the nature and culture of the wider destination, Nillumbik Shire.

Golf, picnics and local history in Yarrambat

The driving range at Yarrambat Park Golf Course has 13 hitting bays, four of which are covered. There is also a free practice area with putting and chipping greens. The golf course also has the Grass Lands Café and bar. Check the details of these facilities again before your trip.

Yarrambat Park is equipped with electric barbecues, tables and a shelter for picnics. These facilities give the park its own distinctive appeal, separate from the golf offering: depending on whether you want to focus on sports practice or a break outdoors, you’ll find different options for your plans.

The town’s history also offers a specific point of interest. The Yarrambat Walk brochure, designed by Alan Sartori, is available from the Yarrambat Post Office; check in advance whether it is available there. The Yarrambat Historical Society holds an Open Day every October. This gives you both a brochure to guide your visit and a recurring event where you can explore local history.

Nature and trails in Nillumbik Shire

In the wider destination of Nillumbik Shire, towns lie among unspoilt bushland and picturesque hills. The Shire has an extensive network of trails for walking, horse riding and cycling. The Panton Hill Bushland Reserve System offers a particularly distinctive natural setting: it consists of seven community-managed bushland reserves in the Panton Hill, Smiths Gully and Watsons Creek area, covering about 140 hectares in total. Activities listed there include bushwalking, birdwatching, horse riding and mountain biking.

The Green Wedge Trail offers a way to explore Nillumbik’s rural areas; it runs from Watery Gully Road in Wattle Glen to Clintons Road in Smiths Gully. The Hurstbridge Heritage Trail has a different focus, passing 30 historically significant sites. Their history spans from early settlement to the mid-20th century. This means that landscape and history are both part of Nillumbik Shire, without treating the trails as interchangeable.

Art, history and regional discoveries

Montsalvat is an arts centre and artists’ community founded in 1934. The site covers 12 acres and has more than 34 buildings. These include three galleries, 19 studios, a ceramics centre and concert venues. Montsalvat also offers exhibitions, studio programs and ceramics classes. This makes it a distinct cultural attraction in Nillumbik Shire, alongside the trails and bushland reserves.

Edendale Community Environment Farm occupies seven acres beside Diamond Creek in Eltham. It teaches about sustainable living and the natural environment. Nillumbik Shire’s public art collection is also spread across the region’s towns and landscapes, and includes sculptures, land art, murals and mosaics.

Another regional destination is the heritage-listed Kangaroo Ground War Memorial Tower in Kangaroo Ground War Memorial Park Reserve. It is considered a popular destination for locals and visitors. The park reopened to the public on 27 February 2026 following restoration work.

Nillumbik Artists Open Studios invites visitors to meet more than 30 artists in their studios across the Shire. The 2026 program includes painters, ceramicists, printmakers, sculptors and musical instrument makers. Open Cellars invites visitors to explore the Nillumbik Hills and meet local winemakers; event dates vary by program year, so it’s worth checking the relevant program.
