Loch combines outdoor exploration with discoveries in the townscape and opportunities to enjoy local food and drink. The Great Southern Rail Trail runs through the town, alongside parks, historic buildings and cottages on the main street, as well as a brewery and distillery. This gives you several ways to plan your holiday: you can get to know Loch through outdoor activity and nature, local history, or tastings. You can choose a holiday rental in Loch based on which of these experiences matter most for your stay.

The Great Southern Rail Trail through Loch

The Great Southern Rail Trail is suitable for walking, cycling and horse riding. A link from the trail to Loch township passes through a tunnel under the South Gippsland Highway. The trail is also connected to the Loch Recreation Reserve by a suspension bridge. These provide different ways to plan an active day: you can explore the route on foot, by bike or on horseback, and consider the reserve as another point of interest.

Parks, walks and bridges

Sunnyside Park has play equipment, barbecue areas and a skate park. It is also the starting point for the Loch Village Walk, which begins on Victoria Road, the main street of Loch Village. If you want to include the walk in your day’s plans, you can use this specific starting point as a guide. The park’s facilities offer other ways to spend time outdoors; which ones matter for your trip depends on whether you want to focus on the walk, play equipment, skate park or barbecue areas.

The Loch Memorial Reserve offers a different bridge experience. There, a suspension bridge crosses a forested gorge. This bridge is separate from the link between the Great Southern Rail Trail and the Loch Recreation Reserve: these connections involve two different reserves. When planning your outing, you can therefore consider both the trail’s link to the Loch Recreation Reserve and the bridge over the gorge in Loch Memorial Reserve as separate points of interest.

Brewery, distillery and tastings

Loch Brewery & Distillery brews ales and distils spirits in Loch. Its cellar door in Loch Village offers tastings from 11 am to 4 pm, Friday to Sunday. This gives your stay a specific food and drink focus and helps you plan when to visit: the stated days and hours apply to the tastings. The Loch Food and Wine Festival is also one of the regular highlights among Loch’s special events. If food and drink are important to your trip, the brewery, distillery, cellar door and festival offer fitting themes for further holiday planning.

Historic buildings and local history

The main street of Loch is lined with charming historic buildings and cottages. This offers a different way to experience the town than the activities on the trail or the facilities in the parks: here, the historic townscape takes centre stage. Loch Railway Station’s station building also has a special connection to the town. It was formerly at Welshpool railway station. This historical link adds another detail about the history of the station building to the impressions of the main street, without requiring a particular sightseeing itinerary.

Choose Loch for your holiday

There is also a specific tip for planning your transport: V/Line coach services are available for travel on the Yarram Line. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Loch, first decide which of these experiences you want to shape your stay. This will help you assess the town in light of the interests you actually associate with your trip.
