Kerang offers opportunities to enjoy nature, spend time in the water and learn about local history. The Loddon River Walk in Kerang Regional Park passes through natural wetlands with a diverse birdlife. There are also a variety of recreational and cultural activities, from swimming and a regular five-kilometre event to historical collections and a monthly market. You can decide which experiences you would like to make the focus of your stay.

Wetlands and birdlife on the Loddon River Walk

The Loddon River Walk is located in Kerang Regional Park, at 134 Wyndham Street, Kerang. Natural wetlands and a diverse birdlife characterise this walking trail. Visitors particularly interested in landscapes and birds will find a tangible connection with nature here during their visit to Kerang. You can also consider the walk as a separate excursion, whether you plan to spend the rest of your time swimming, exploring local history or keeping active.

Water activities and exercise

Kerang Swimming Pool has two solar-heated outdoor pools: an intermediate pool and a 50-metre pool. The facility also includes a splash park, water slide, family change rooms, kiosk, barbecue facilities and shaded seating. As well as the pools, there are spaces for a range of activities and breaks. If time in the water is important to your trip, you can consider these facilities as one of the specific options when planning your stay.

Kerang Exercise Pool offers a different focus. It is heated to 30–34°C and provides opportunities for warm-water exercise in the Gannawarra area. The choice between these two swimming options mainly comes down to the experience you want: outdoor pools and a water slide on one hand, or warm-water exercise in a heated pool on the other.

For outdoor exercise, there is the Kerang Regional parkrun. This free weekly event takes place every Saturday in Kerang Regional Park. The five kilometres can be completed running, jogging or walking, and times are recorded. Another option for sports enthusiasts is Kerang Golf and Bowls Club, with its 18-hole golf course.

Kerang’s history and local life

The “Self-guided Walk or Drive of Historic Kerang” brochure helps visitors explore Kerang on foot or by car. Choosing between these two ways to explore offers a guide to how you might engage with the town’s historical themes. Kerang Historical Society and Museum has an extensive collection of objects relating to the social and agricultural history of Kerang and the District. Visitors interested in everyday life and agriculture in the area will find a collection focused on these subjects.

Kerang Community Market is also part of the local offering. It takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month and on other special occasions. Market days feature fresh produce, plants, arts and crafts, second-hand goods, jams, sauces and preserves. The range spans food as well as handcrafted and pre-loved items. Sir John Gorton Library also offers free Wi-Fi, computer access and visitor information. Its services also include family history research, school holiday activities and exhibitions.

Tailor your stay to your interests

When choosing a holiday rental in Kerang, you can first consider which aspects of the town matter most to you: its wetlands and birdlife, the different water activities, exercise in the park or golf, or its history and local life. These options offer different experiences without requiring you to settle on just one theme for your trip.
