Kalorama offers different perspectives on its landscapes and plant life. From Kalorama Lookout, the view stretches to Silvan Reservoir, the southeastern side of the Dandenong Ranges and across the surrounding Yarra Valley. Karwarra Australian Native Botanic Garden showcases native plants in a landscaped setting, while Kalorama Park offers short walking trails through several types of landscape. This gives you a choice between views, garden culture and time outdoors to help you decide on a trip — a useful starting point when considering Kalorama as a holiday destination with a holiday rental.

Views and a place for an outing together

From Kalorama Lookout, you can enjoy views of Silvan Reservoir, the southeastern side of the Dandenong Ranges and the surrounding Yarra Valley. Water, mountain scenery and valley are all in view from the lookout. The nearby scenic Kalorama Park Picnic Ground is suitable for a day out with family and friends. It offers a different focus from the lookout: here, the emphasis is on spending time together at a scenic picnic spot.

A garden for native plants

Karwarra Australian Native Botanic Garden covers two hectares and features more than 1,400 different species of native plants. Established in 1965, it is a public garden that uses exclusively native plants. Visitors can see how these plants can be used to striking effect in a landscaped garden. Karwarra is therefore of interest if you are interested both in Australian plants and in how they can be used in a designed setting.

The garden also includes a well-stocked plant nursery that sells Australian native plants to the public. This means a landscaped garden and a plant nursery selling plants are side by side. The site also has a community room.

Alongside the gravel paths is a paved concrete path that provides access to the entire garden for wheelchair users and people who use walking aids. Check the conditions before your visit.

Play, picnics and outdoor trails

Kalorama Memorial Reserve has a playground and a skate park. The two facilities appeal to different leisure interests and may be worth considering for families who want to include these activities in their travel plans.

The 22-hectare Kalorama Park is a reserve on the eastern slopes of the Dandenongs. Facilities include picnic areas, free gas barbecues and walking trails through open areas and a mountain ash forest. The short walking trails start at each of the three car parks and pass through native forest, historic orchards and exotic plantings. Unlike Karwarra, which focuses on native plants, the park trails pass through different landscapes and planting areas.

Choose Kalorama as a holiday destination

When looking for a holiday rental in Kalorama, you can decide what to focus on for your trip: the views from the lookout, garden culture at Karwarra, or trails and picnic facilities in the park. For families, the playground and skate park at Memorial Reserve or the nearby Picnic Ground may also be a consideration. This lets you choose a destination based on the experiences that interest you most.
