Euroa between Seven Creeks and history
Accommodation in Euroa
At the foot of the Strathbogie Ranges, Euroa combines waterside nature experiences with insights into the town’s history. The Apex Walking Track begins in Seven Creeks Park: this easy, seven-kilometre trail follows Seven Creeks and crosses the creek at the Rockies and at Butter Factory Bridge. Choosing a holiday rental in Euroa lets you plan your days around whether trails and landscapes or historic sites are your priority.
Waterside scenery and walking trails
Seven Creeks Park offers a practical starting point for getting to know the creek and its surroundings. The park is just a short walk from the town centre, a playground and Victoria Cross Memorial Park. The waterside scenery also includes the Euroa Fish Ladder, which forms part of the water-level control gates that create the lake in the park. The Travellers Rest and RV Comfort Stop in Seven Creeks Park has toilets for men and women, a baby-changing room, and a seating area with a terrace.
The 27-hectare Euroa Arboretum offers a different perspective on nature. On the Daanak (Coolamon) Walking Trail, visitors can scan a QR code to hear an audio recording by the Taungurung Traditional Owners and learn about seasonal changes and bush plants. The constructed wetlands and chain of ponds provide habitats for invertebrates, which in turn feed fish, birds, frogs and reptiles. The site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
For a more challenging hike, consider Balmattum Hill as an extension of the Rotary Lookout Walking Track. From there, views extend over the town and west across the river plains. This makes it a different option from the easy-rated Apex Walking Track: the routes differ in their stated difficulty and the views described. The approximately three-kilometre Euroa Heritage Trail is a loop through the town that takes in many historic buildings.
Euroa’s history on the ground
The Farmers Arms Hotel Museum brings together local artefacts such as clothing, household items, agricultural machinery and wartime memorabilia. It is housed in the historic Farmers Arms Hotel, which was first licensed in 1876. Euroa’s third National Bank building also tells the story of the town’s architecture: it was built in 1885 and is registered with the National Trust. The old Euroa Flour Mill was historically significant as one of Euroa’s early major industries.
Another chapter in the town’s history concerns the former Euroa Bank: Ned Kelly and his gang, including Dan and Steve Hart, robbed it in 1878. If you prefer to explore the sites and stories on a walking tour, the approximately three-kilometre Heritage Trail offers a way to take in many historic buildings in the town. The museum artefacts provide a different focus, bringing together local life and memorabilia from various fields.
Choose activities and a place to stay
Euroa Community Cinema is also part of the town’s cultural offering. The programme, managed by Strathbogie Shire Council, is overseen by a local volunteer committee; volunteers screen the films. For those interested in miniature railways, Euroa Miniature Railway is located at 11 Turnbull St. According to the stated schedule, it runs on the fourth Sunday of each month, except in January.
When choosing a holiday rental, you could first consider which side of Euroa you want to shape your trip: the waterside trails, the arboretum’s wetlands and bush plants, or the town’s history, with its museum and Heritage Trail. These experiences offer different starting points for planning your days, without requiring you to commit to just one way of exploring.
