Buangor: Walking Trails, Waterfalls and Heritage
Accommodation in Buangor
Buangor offers nature experiences among eucalypt forests, creek flats, waterfalls and steep rock escarpments. This landscape defines Mount Buangor State Park and makes the area appealing to anyone who likes to spend time outdoors while travelling. There is also a piece of transport history: the former Cobb & Co Staging Stables recall a time when horses and coaches travelled through the area.
Walks through forest and rocky landscapes
Mount Buangor State Park has a 15-kilometre network of walking trails. Many trails lead into the neighbouring Mount Cole State Forest. This gives you a range of walking options to consider during your stay: individual circuit walks with stated walking times, or a hike that takes two days. The Beeripmo Walk passes through Mt Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park and is designed as a scenic two-day hike.
The Bukkertillible Walk leads to a remarkable destination: a huge granite arch resembling a cave. The rock arch is almost 100 metres wide and 15 metres high. These dimensions set it apart from trails whose details mainly focus on distance and walking time. If striking landforms are a particular interest when planning your trip, this walk is a distinct option.
The Jenny Clayton Circuit is an 8.5-kilometre circuit with a walking time of two hours. It can be used on foot or by bicycle. The Mount Buangor Walk is also a circuit: it is 10 kilometres long, with a walking time of three hours. When planning, you can choose between two routes of different lengths and stated walking times. The Ferntree Waterfall walking track is also in Mount Buangor State Park.
A glimpse into Buangor’s history
The former Cobb & Co Staging Stables in Buangor served as a coach and horse change station. Their former role gives the area a different focus from its walking trails and nature destinations. The Stables are listed as state-protected heritage in Victoria. In recent years, they have also served as a venue for weddings, birthdays and other community events. This use is part of the building’s more recent history; it does not indicate that events are currently offered there.
A drive with views of the hilly landscape
A scenic drive along Old Geelong Road is another way to discover Buangor and its surroundings. The route passes Challicum Hills Wind Farm and offers views of rolling hills. So, alongside walking, you can choose to make a road trip and take in the landscape different parts of your trip.
If you are looking for a holiday apartment or house in Buangor, your planned travel style can guide your choice: Would you like to plan a single walk with a set distance, are you interested in the two-day Beeripmo Walk, or do heritage and a drive through the hilly landscape appeal to you? Choose a place to stay that suits the experiences that matter to you, and factor the stated walking times and distances into your daily plans.
