Moana: Beach, Trail and Parkrun
Accommodation in Moana
Moana is on the northern Fleurieu Peninsula and combines a long, wide beach with several ways to experience the coast. Swimming, surfing, snorkelling and fishing are all options, as are walks along the shore. There is also a four-kilometre section of the Coast Park Trail, a weekly Parkrun and access to Moana Sands Conservation Park. This variety offers different ways to plan your trip: you can combine beach activities with a defined route, a Saturday Parkrun or a visit to the conservation park. Depending on your interests, you can focus on Moana as a place for water activities, exercise on land or both.
Beach, water and shoreline
Moana Beach is long and wide, with activities ranging from swimming and snorkelling to surfing and fishing. Coastal walks add a route along the shore to your time by the water. When planning, you can decide whether you’d rather be active in the water, go fishing or explore the coast on foot. Which activity is right for you also depends on local conditions and the relevant safety advice.
A defined coastal route
The 4 km section of the Coast Park Trail runs from Port Noarlunga South to Moana. It is rated easy to moderate and is open to walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Compared with the beach, the trail offers a clearly defined route with named endpoints and its own difficulty rating. This lets you include a specific distance and one of the listed ways of getting around in your day’s plans. Before visiting, check the council website for any temporary closures.
Saturday morning Parkrun
The weekly Parkrun on the Esplanade in Moana is a free, timed 5 km community run or walk, open to everyone. It takes place every Saturday from 8 am. This adds an activity with a specific day of the week and start time to the options of the beach and trail. If you’d like to take part, check the event page for the latest organisational information before visiting.
Access to Moana Sands Conservation Park
Moana Sands Conservation Park can be accessed via the southern section of Moana Esplanade or via Moana Beach, south of Peddler Creek. These are two specifically named access points to help you find your way. If you’re planning a visit to the park, check local conditions in advance.
Choose the right travel focus
When choosing holiday accommodation, it’s worth first deciding on the kind of pace you want for your stay. Someone who wants to experience the coast mainly from the water and shore will plan differently from someone who prefers a route with a set distance and difficulty rating; Parkrun, meanwhile, ties Saturday morning to a specific start time. These differences answer a practical question: what kind of day do you want to define your stay in Moana? This way, you can start your search for holiday accommodation with the experiences that matter to you, rather than with a general coastal theme alone.
