Moggill: Ferry and Local History
Accommodation in Moggill
Moggill can be explored through very different themes: the daily operation of the Moggill Ferry, a fishing platform in Moggill Ferry Reserve and the history of former community buildings. When choosing a holiday destination, you can take both practical interests and cultural history into account.
Ferry Services and Fishing Platform
The Moggill Ferry operates daily, except on Good Friday and Christmas Day. If you would like to include the ferry in your plans, check the timetable beforehand and keep the holiday exceptions in mind. This makes the ferry service a specific timing consideration for your plans, without requiring you to organise your whole day around it.
There is a land-based fishing platform at Moggill Ferry Reserve in Moggill. It is a specific point of interest for anyone who counts fishing among their holiday interests. Check local conditions before visiting. The ferry and the fishing platform appeal to different interests: the timetable matters for planning your schedule, while the platform is for travellers interested in fishing.
Church and School History
The former Moggill Methodist Church was originally known as Moggill Wesleyan Methodist Church. It was extended in 1905 to accommodate the growing congregation. A hall was added in 1941. Mr and Mrs Joseph Sinnamon, early farmers from Moggill, donated £300 for it. These milestones show how the building developed and also name a specific contribution from the local community.
In 1977, the congregation of Moggill Methodist Church joined the union of the Presbyterian, Congregational and Methodist churches. The building is now a Uniting Church and continues to serve as a focal point for the local community. The church’s history thus extends from its original name, through its extensions, to its role today.
The former Moggill State School is also part of local history. Built in 1866, it was the first school in the Moggill District. Its construction date and role as the first school give you another historical point of reference. Together with the history of the church, the school offers a look at two different local institutions: education and community life.
Choosing Moggill as a Holiday Destination
When deciding whether Moggill suits your travel interests, you can weigh up the different themes: Is the ferry service important to you, would you like to include fishing, or are you interested in the history of the former church and school? Holiday accommodation in Moggill focuses your search on the area. If the ferry is part of your plans, check its timetable; if you would like to visit the fishing platform, take local conditions into account.
