Kangaroo Point brings together striking cliffs, a longer city walk and a history that reaches back to Brisbane’s early development. You can explore the area from different perspectives: on a route with several stops, by moving between the cliff areas, and through its historical traces. These different interests can be a good starting point when choosing your holiday apartment.

City Walk and Cliff Paths

The Kangaroo Point City Walk is about five kilometres long. It crosses the Story Bridge and passes the City Botanic Gardens, Old Government House and South Bank. Its named stops make the walk appealing to anyone who wants to include several places along the way. Its approximate length and route provide a practical guide for planning your day.

At the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, a staircase with 107 steps connects the upper and lower cliff areas. This is a different way to explore from the City Walk: here, the focus is on a single crossing between two areas, while the City Walk is a longer route with several stops. Kangaroo Point Bridge can be accessed from Scott Street in Kangaroo Point; there is a lift from CT White Park. If you plan to use the bridge, these access points are useful landmarks.

History of the Cliffs and the Suburb

The Kangaroo Point Cliffs were originally a rocky ridge. Around 1826, Captain Patrick Logan opened a quarry there for the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement. Brisbane Tuff was extracted for the settlement. The history of the cliffs is therefore also tied to the area’s early use. Kangaroo Point is one of Brisbane’s oldest suburbs—a background that adds a historical perspective to a walk here.

Two parks in Kangaroo Point were also once home and workplaces for pioneering Queensland scientists and researchers. This earlier use adds another connection to the suburb’s past alongside the quarry’s history. If you enjoy understanding how a place was shaped, the cliffs and parks offer different starting points for exploring.

Special Occasions and Choosing Your Accommodation

Kangaroo Point Cliffs Park is a popular venue for weddings and special events. If you are planning your own event, check the applicable event conditions. There is also a nearby landmark for getting there: the Cross River Ferry stops at the Holman Street ferry terminal. Check the current ferry timetable before your trip.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Kangaroo Point, use your plans for each day as a guide: will the city walk and its stops, the cliff areas or the suburb’s history be your main focus? A special occasion may also change your priorities. Compare the location of a specific listing with the places you want to visit rather than assuming it is close to them.
