Beach and four-wheel driving
Eurong is on K'gari, a World Heritage-listed island formerly known as Fraser Island. 75 Mile Beach serves as Eurong’s main road. The town is also considered a destination for four-wheel-drive enthusiasts. K'gari is suitable only for four-wheel-drive vehicles, which you can hire on the island. Check the current conditions for four-wheel driving on K'gari before travelling. These are practical details to consider when choosing where to stay, reflecting Eurong’s beachside character and reliance on four-wheel driving.
The Central Station Walk
The Central Station Walk is 10.5 km one way and connects Eurong with the K'gari Great Walk at Central Station. It starts at Eurong Beach. Access is via a walking track to the left of the main entrance, over the foredunes and through a gate in the dingo-proof fence around the town. As conditions on site can change, it is recommended that you check the current park notices about the route before setting out.
From the beach, the route first passes through low Wallum banksia woodland with swamp tea-trees. It then continues through open eucalypt forest with coastal she-oaks, scribbly gums, blackbutts and bloodwoods, before entering lush rainforest. The distance and sequence of vegetation answer different planning questions: 10.5 km one way indicates the length of the route, while Wallum, eucalypt forest and rainforest define the changes in scenery.
More activities on K'gari
South of Eurong, on K'gari’s east beach, is the fenced Wongai camping area; access is by four-wheel-drive vehicle. The Central Station Walk starts in Eurong, while beach fishing is possible on K'gari: these are distinct—a specific route from one location and an island-wide activity.

Local information
The QPWS office in Eurong is generally unattended for visitor enquiries because rangers are out in the field; information signs are provided there. The office has information displays. Self-service packs containing brochures, a current conditions report and a camping trailer are also available there, including for visitors who wish to change or extend their stay. If you plan to do so, check the permit process before travelling. As on-site procedures can change, check current park notices if needed. There is a water tap on the beach in front of the QPWS ranger station and police station; check water availability on site.
