Coochiemudlo Island lies off Victoria Point (Warrer Warrer) in Moreton Bay; the island is part of the Redlands Coast. Its character can be explored from several angles: a sheltered, green island fringe, beaches, trails through wetlands and traces of local history. When planning your holiday, you can consider whether you would mainly like to spend time by the water, explore the outdoors or learn about the island’s history. These different interests can give your search for holiday accommodation a personal focus.

Green Island Fringe and Wetlands

The Emerald Fringe surrounds the entire coastline of Coochiemudlo Island. It covers approximately 42 hectares and consists of a continuous series of vegetated recreation, environmental and road areas. The Emerald Fringe is heritage-listed. This means the vegetated fringe itself is part of the island’s defining landscape—not just individual beaches or trails.

East of the jetty, trails lead to the Ramsar-protected Melaleuca Wetlands, which are rich in bird species. The eastern island circuit is an easy walk along the eastern shore, passing protected Melaleuca wetlands and beaches. If you enjoy walking, this trail offers a nature-focused perspective on the island. From Norfolk Beach, the view stretches to North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).

Beaches and Trails for Different Holiday Days

Main Beach has shallow water for swimming. Morwong Beach is a north-facing stretch of beach, ideal for a quiet beach walk, swimming or fishing. The two beach descriptions emphasize different features: Main Beach is characterized by its shallow water, while Morwong Beach is distinguished by its aspect and the opportunities it offers for a peaceful stroll or time in and by the water.

The Coochiemudlo Island Circuit is a five-kilometre loop that takes about an hour to walk. If you prefer a guided island tour, you could consider Coochie Guided Island Tours: the tour covers the entire island and takes approximately two hours. The circuit and the tour are two different ways to explore the island—on foot or as part of a guided tour.

Local History and Island Life

The Coochiemudlo Island heritage trail has 11 stops. Coochiemudlo Community Hall is also part of the area’s history: it has historical and social significance for the local community. The surviving steps and jetty on Coochiemudlo Island are also of local significance, embodying historical values as well as rarity value. The Heritage Trail makes the island’s history accessible to visitors through its stops.

Pioneer Park has a nature-themed playground, shaded tables, electric barbecue facilities and toilets. On the western side of the island, the Isle of Coochie Golf Club is set in bushland. These places complement the beach and nature experiences with other ways to spend time on the island. When choosing holiday accommodation, you can therefore start by deciding which aspect of an island holiday matters most to you: the coast and swimming, trails and wetlands, or history and other island experiences.
