Annangrove Park brings together several aspects of the area: a single sports field for community-level sport, the Hills Shire Council Community Environment Centre and bushland of high conservation significance. The Centre brings together practical topics related to gardening and the environment. The sports field complements this focus as a local sporting facility.

Bushland and conservation

The park includes bushland of high conservation significance. Threatened species include Tetratheca glanulosa, Darwinia biflora, Leucopogon fletcheri, Hibbertia superans, Pimelea curviflora, Glossy Black Cockatoos and Red Crowned Toadlets. Higher areas also contain fragments of the endangered Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest and Shale Sandstone Transition Forest communities. The conservation value therefore relates both to individual species and to bushland communities that occur in fragments in the higher areas. This range is a special feature of the park for people interested in nature.

Gardens at the Community Environment Centre

The Community Environment Centre is in the rear of Annangrove Park, by the car park. It is on Currie Avenue, which branches off Annangrove Road. Around the Centre are a garden with native plants, a vegetable garden, a bush tucker garden and a water-wise garden bed. Various compost bins, a worm farm and a beehive with native bees complement the outdoor demonstration areas. Topics range from growing plants to composting and native bees. This means different gardening approaches sit alongside practical examples of composting and water conservation.

The gardens and outdoor demonstration areas are open to the public at all times. The Community Environment Centre has listed opening hours: Thursdays from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Before your visit, check the latest information from the Hills Shire Council if you want to plan around opening hours or on-site access.

Sport, workshops and community activities

The single sports field is best suited to community-level sport. If you are planning to use it, check availability in advance. Workshops are regularly held at the Community Environment Centre, usually on Thursdays or Saturdays. If you want to plan around a specific workshop, check the latest dates with the Hills Shire Council beforehand.

Community activities are also part of the park’s surroundings: the Annangrove Park Bushcare Group works in Annangrove Park Reserve. A typical Growing Food for Wildlife working bee may end with a shared barbecue; participants bring their own food. The barbecue is a possible way to finish, not a fixed part of every working bee.

Annangrove as a location for your holiday rental

If you are looking for a holiday rental in Annangrove, the park, gardens and environmental centre can provide practical points to consider when choosing an area. The bushland adds a conservation focus to these features, while the single sports field caters to community-level sport. Consider whether these features match what you would like to do during your stay. This can help you assess Annangrove as a possible location for your holiday rental based on its local attractions.
