Perisher Valley is known for alpine winter sports and trails through the landscapes of Kosciuszko National Park. Perisher Ski Resort consists of four distinct resort areas; there are also hiking routes, cross-country ski trails and a snowshoe track. This gives families and other travellers a choice between days on the runs, playing in the snow and exploring alpine landscapes.

Resort days on the runs and playing in the snow

Perisher is the largest alpine resort in the Southern Hemisphere. Perisher Ski Resort has more than 100 groomed runs, 45 lifts and four terrain parks. These figures give an idea of the scale of the resort’s offerings. If you’re looking for a holiday rental in Perisher Valley, you can consider whether alpine runs and terrain parks should be the focus of your stay. There is also a dedicated area for children and families to toboggan and play in the snow. So, alongside the runs, Perisher also offers a dedicated place for snow play.

Walking trails and alpine landscapes

The Snowies Alpine Walk connects the alpine destinations of Guthega, Perisher Valley and Charlotte Pass. The Charlotte Pass Village to Perisher Valley walk connects Charlotte Pass Village and Perisher Valley, passing through alpine valleys and the rugged landscapes of Kosciuszko National Park. The route offers views of high-country plains, snow-covered mountain ranges and clear-flowing rivers. These two walks provide different options for anyone looking to spend time in the alpine landscape on a hike.

The Porcupine walk is another option for a short, family-friendly hike near Perisher in Kosciuszko National Park. The Rock Creek snowshoe track starts in Perisher Village: it passes through a treeless frost hollow along Rock Creek, then loops through an open forest of snow gums. The cross-country ski trails of the Perisher Valley Range also wind through the landscape and pass eerie-looking snow gums.

One seasonal restriction is also important when planning: the Perisher Valley to Bullocks Flat walk is closed in winter, between June and October, because it follows cross-country ski trails. This information applies to this walk; for a hiking stay, you can also consider the Snowies Alpine Walk, the walk from Charlotte Pass Village to Perisher Valley, or the Porcupine walk.
