Lake Canobolas, wine tastings and seasonal fruit give Nashdale a varied character. Here, nature and water activities sit alongside insights into the history of wine and offerings centred on local produce. Which of these aspects interests you most can also help you choose a holiday rental that suits your stay.

The history of water at Lake Canobolas

Lake Canobolas was built in 1918 to supply water to Orange and was formerly known as Meadow Creek Reservoir. On the eastern shore, the Old Pumphouse recalls this purpose: it carried water from the reservoir to Orange. After being decommissioned for more than 60 years, the building was restored to almost its original condition. The history of the lake and the pumphouse can thus be traced through a tangible structure. The Apex Adventure Playground is also on the eastern shore.

Lake Canobolas is open daily from early morning until sunset. Dogs are allowed in the park but must be kept on a leash. As operating information can change, it is advisable to check the latest details before visiting.

Activities at the lake and in the reserve

Activities at Lake Canobolas vary with the seasons. They include cycling, sailing, canoeing, walking, swimming and dragon boating. Depending on the season, there are opportunities both on the water and on land. When planning, check which activities are available at your preferred time of travel.

Lake Canobolas Reserve has picnic areas, barbecue facilities and fishing spots. A walking track goes around the lake, which is considered a refuge for native birds and other wildlife. This means you can enjoy a visit in different ways: spending time by the water, going for a walk or taking a break at a picnic area, for example. These places and activities are in the vicinity of Nashdale.

Wine tastings with a range of focuses

At Nashdale Lane Wines, owners, wine experts or winemakers explain the winemaking process step by step during an estate wine-tasting experience. Cellar door tastings are booked per table, not per person. The vineyard, at an altitude of 860 to 900 metres above sea level, is farmed sustainably. At RIKARD Wines, you can taste wines from the bottle, barrel and tank with guidance from the winemakers; tastings and winery tours are also available there. For booking details, it is best to contact the winery directly.

Nearby, Rowlee also offers a private four-hour experience with a vineyard tour, personalised tasting and lunch. Transfers from accommodation in the area are included.

Seasonal fruit and dining

Nashdale’s seasonal fruit includes cherries, peaches, plums, apples, figs and quinces. Depending on the season, you can pick your own fruit or buy it fresh directly from farm gates. Dining also has seasonal highlights: Rowlee Dining and Bar in Nashdale serves lunch from Thursday to Sunday and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. As opening hours may change, it is best to check them in advance.

When choosing a holiday rental in Nashdale, consider whether you would like to focus your stay more on the lake, wine experiences or seasonal produce. These different options can help you plan your trip to suit your interests without every activity having to be the same kind of experience.
