Discover Budgewoi on two scales: Budgewoi Lake in town and the nearby coastal landscape. A shared path runs along the lake shore; nearby, you’ll find the Geebung walking track in Munmorah State Conservation Area and nearby Frazer Beach. You can focus your holiday on walks and bike rides by the water, or on coastal heath, beaches and natural areas. If you’re looking for holiday accommodation in Budgewoi, consider which of these landscapes and activities you’d like to shape your days away. Wildflowers bring a seasonal touch to the coastal heath throughout the year; autumn and winter are considered the best seasons for surf at Budgewoi Beach.

Coastal Heath and Natural Areas

Munmorah State Conservation Area lies between Budgewoi and Catherine Hill Bay and encompasses 12 km of coastline, rugged cliffs and panoramic views of the Tuggerah Lakes system. The Geebung walking track in the conservation area near Budgewoi passes over rock platforms and through coastal heath. Along the way, you’ll see sweeping ocean views and colourful wildflowers, smell the heath and hear the calls of birds, frogs and cicadas. Wildflowers are seasonal.

Hiking, camping, fishing, surfing and swimming are possible in Munmorah State Conservation Area. Access and advisories may vary, so check the latest park alerts before you visit.

Lakeside Path and Circuit Walk

A shared path runs along the shore of Budgewoi Lake and is suitable for walking, running and cycling. The Budgewoi Beach Dunecare Circuit Walk offers a different kind of route: a 1 km loop with boardwalks through wetland and beach areas. The 12 km refers to the conservation area’s coastline; the 1 km is the length of this particular loop.

If you’re choosing between the two paths, the circuit offers a set distance and a loop route, while the lakeside path is suited to walking, running and cycling. Check local access conditions for the Dunecare Circuit Walk before your visit.

Beach and Seasonal Surf

Frazer Beach, near Budgewoi, is a popular swimming spot. It is patrolled only during the Christmas and Easter school holidays. If patrolled swimming is important to you, take this time limit into account when planning. The surf can be unpredictable, so take extreme care when swimming.

Budgewoi Beach has surf breaks; autumn and winter are considered the best seasons for surf. This makes clear which advice applies to which beach: limited patrols apply to the swimming spot at Frazer Beach, while the surf breaks and seasonal surf conditions refer to Budgewoi Beach.
