Prince George County has a complex history. Flowerdew Hundred Plantation was one of the earliest English settlements in the New World. Around 1621, the first documented windmill in North America was built at Windmill Point on the plantation. Brandon is a historic plantation on the south bank of the James River in Prince George County.
