Summit Park combines high-elevation forest landscapes with a diverse trail network and notable traces of regional history. The Summit Park Trail System offers hiking, trail running, and mountain biking in the forested area. This makes the area especially suitable for travelers who want to spend their days outdoors and who, when choosing a vacation rental, primarily consider the desired mix of activity, nature, and discovery.

Forest Trails and Protected Landscapes

The Summit Park Trail System runs through the Summit Park Open Space. The protected area preserves the natural habitat of the local wildlife and shapes the character of the surroundings. The open space is protected by a conservation easement held by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands; it is also recognized as a Forest Legacy area. Those interested in nature observation and peaceful forest landscapes will find a clear focus for their travel planning here.

One specific hiking option is the Over Easy Hiking Loop. The route is 5.9 miles long and begins and ends at the Short Stack Trailhead. The distance helps you fit a day of hiking into the rest of your plans without implying a specific walking time. Summit Slam can also lead to a hike to Summit Park Peak.

Mountain Bike Routes for Different Skill Levels

Summit Park also offers several distinct mountain biking options. The “No Worries from Discovery” route is most commonly ridden by mountain bike, but it can also be traveled on foot. The Toll New World and No Worries trails provide a route connection to Summit Park. South of I-80, the trails in the Summit Park and Discovery Ridge area run primarily through densely forested and steeper terrain. They are intended for people with intermediate to advanced skills.

The Summit Park and Discovery Ridge area has various winter singletrack routes. UP and Pale Green Dot are the only groomed fat-bike singletrack routes there. This combination of seasonal trails and more challenging terrain makes choosing the right accommodation a matter of personal travel plans: Should the focus be on hiking, mountain biking days, or a combination of both? In the Summit Park and Discovery Ridge area, Woodward Trailhead is the only trailhead accessible by bus via route 108 from High Valley Transit.

History Between the Pass Road and the Railroad

In addition to its trails, Summit Park also has a historical side. Golden Pass Road was begun in 1848, completed in 1850, and was considered an important western route into the Salt Lake Valley. Near the summit, remnants of the former railroad line are still visible on the south side of Interstate 80, including the cuts of the “Horseshoe Curves.”

Summit Park was founded around 1957 primarily for summer cabins. Today’s Woodward Park City also has a historical connection: The facility is located on the site of the former Gorgoza Park tubing hill; Gorgoza Park was in Summit Park. Woodward Park City offers tubing on purpose-built lanes. The upper tubing hill has four lanes and is 1,200 feet long.

Choosing the Right Starting Point

When searching for accommodation, it is worth first deciding which of these aspects of Summit Park should define your vacation. Hikers can focus on the Over Easy Hiking Loop, Summit Park Peak, and the protected open space. Mountain biking travelers are more likely to focus on the singletrack selection, the more challenging trails south of I-80, or the groomed fat-bike routes. Those who want to add historical impressions can combine their nature experiences with Golden Pass Road and the visible railroad remnants.

You can also find other destinations for your travel planning in the selection, including Coalville, Park City, and Kamas. Within Summit Park planning, however, deciding between hiking, cycling, winter trails, and history remains the best first step toward finding a suitable vacation rental or vacation home for your own travel rhythm.
