Sevier County combines striking landscapes with unusual destinations: waterways, ATV routes, cycling paths, rock art, an active salt mine and a scenic byway offer a wide variety of travel experiences. Those looking for a vacation rental or vacation home can tailor their stay to their preferred mix of active days, nature observation, water activities and cultural discoveries.

Routes, River and Water Landscapes

A major focus is the network of routes around the Sevier River and Otter Creek. Otter Creek State Park provides direct access to three ATV routes, including the Paiute Trail System. Fremont Indian State Park also offers access to the Paiute ATV Trail and camping. One section of the Paiute Trail was officially renamed the Max Reid Trail by the Forest Service. This makes the region particularly appealing to travelers who enjoy spending their days on motorized excursions and exploring different routes.

The Sevier River attracts whitewater rafters, inner-tube floaters, anglers and campers. Access to the Sevier River Trail is available at the canyon mouth as well as in Joseph, Elsinore and Central. A developed and popular cycling path also runs along the east side of the river. This makes it possible to accommodate different interests centered around the river without every outing having to follow the same pace.

Otter Creek Reservoir is also an important destination for anglers. It is considered a significant fishing water where anglers can pursue record catches. In spring and fall, birdwatching along the Pacific Migratory Bird Flyway is also possible at Otter Creek State Park. This seasonal feature complements the more active offerings with a quieter way to experience the landscape attentively.

Fish Lake, Scenic Byway and Pando

The Fishlake Scenic Byway passes through Fishlake National Forest and leads to Utah's largest natural mountain lake. The road is paved and suitable for all vehicles. Fish Lake itself is a 2,500-acre lake known for fishing and boating. When choosing accommodations, travelers can therefore consider whether water activities, a scenic drive or a combination of both should be the focus of their trip.

A special stop along Utah Highway 25, the Fishlake Scenic Byway, is Pando. The site lies between the Rust Springs Pull-off and the Lakeside Store. There, an easy 1.4-mile loop trail passes interpretive signs about Pando's unique biology and local conservation efforts. Other days can be devoted to longer routes or time on the water.

The Sevier River Corridor follows US-89 along the Sevier River and through the valley it shaped. Big Rock Candy Mountain, a colorful geological formation in Marysvale Canyon, lies directly along this route of the Sevier River Corridor. Such distinctive landmarks make a drive through the landscape interesting even when the itinerary is not focused exclusively on sporting activities.

Fremont Culture and an Active Salt Mine

Rock art and structures of the Fremont culture can be seen at Fremont Indian State Park. Together with camping facilities and access to the Paiute ATV Trail, the park creates a combination of culture and outdoor adventure. You can include this focus in your trip if historical traces and landscape exploration are equally important to you.

The Redmond Salt Mine offers another unusual experience. The salt mine is still in operation. Guided tours pass through the active mine tunnels to depths of 400 to 500 feet below the surface and last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. The mine therefore creates a clear contrast with the lake, river and open landscapes: instead of a journey through nature, the focus here is on an underground visit.

Choose the Right Travel Style

When looking for a vacation rental in Sevier County, it is worth first deciding which experiences are most important for your stay. For ATV routes and the Paiute Trail, the corresponding destinations are ideal as a planning focus. Those who prefer the water can include Fish Lake, Otter Creek Reservoir and the Sevier River in their selection. Nature observation and shorter explorations lead to Pando or Otter Creek State Park, while Fremont Indian State Park and the Redmond Salt Mine add cultural or unusual highlights.

This creates an accommodation search based not only on the place name but also on the desired way of experiencing Sevier County. For further orientation, you can also include Richfield, Glenwood and Sevier in your research.
