Brian Head combines high-elevation mountain landscapes with outdoor adventures, unusual natural formations, and distinctive viewpoints. Most trails lie between 9,000 and 11,000 feet in elevation. Those planning a trip here can therefore choose between active days in the mountains, short nature trails, and excursions to remarkable landscapes.

Summit Views and History at Brian Head Peak

Brian Head Peak reaches an elevation of 11,307 feet. From there, views extend into the neighboring states of Arizona and Nevada. The summit is also home to a stone cabin built by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1935 and 1937, which has become a landmark of the peak. Brian Head was formerly known as Monument Peak and Bear Flats—an detail that adds another layer of history to the present-day town.

Mountain Biking, Disc Golf, and Activities at the Resort

For sports-oriented trips, Brian Head Resort offers more than 100 miles of downhill singletrack for mountain biking. Another starting point for active days is the Sydney Peak Trailhead near Brian Head Peak. From there, hiking and mountain biking trails lead into the Dixie National Forest. This allows trip plans to be tailored to different routes and experiences without committing to just one activity.

The resort’s disc golf course also adds a distinctive feature: it has 18 holes and is accessible exclusively via the Giant Steps Express. This lift takes visitors to the resort’s summit, where panoramic views of the surrounding landscape are possible. The tubing area at Brian Head Resort rounds out the offerings with several lanes and a conveyor-belt lift.

Nature Experiences and Time Together

Bristlecone Pond offers the public picnic areas, fire pits, a playground, and volleyball, basketball, and pickleball courts. In addition to mountain tours, this provides opportunities for a varied stay that accommodates different interests. Those who prefer a shorter nature trail will find Twisted Forest a few miles west of Brian Head. A family-friendly, one-mile round-trip trail leads through a grove of bristlecone pines.

Brian Head Ice, meanwhile, is a recreational ice rink in Brian Head set among mountain trees. This makes it possible to combine nature, exercise, and a trip to the ice rink when planning a getaway.
