Haslet combines green spaces and activities for children with a local history shaped by schools and the railroad. Haslet Community Park brings together several recreational options. Families can include different interests in their plans: a walk, a round of disc golf, or a game of sand volleyball are all options to choose from.

Parks with Different Features

John Gammill Park also offers its own attractions: there is an enclosed play area for people with different abilities, a covered pavilion, and public restrooms. If having a sheltered play area is important when planning your day, you can consider this park as an outing destination.

Community and Events

Christmas in the Park takes place every year in December. Activities include a real snow slide and a ride on the Polar Express train. This holiday event is therefore quite different from the park amenities available for recreation and relaxation throughout the year. If you plan to visit Haslet in December, you can consider the event as a seasonal addition to your travel plans.

On October 6, 2026, the City of Haslet, the Haslet Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office will host a free, community-wide National Night Out event at Haslet Community Park from 6 to 8 p.m. National Night Out is an annual campaign for crime and drug prevention and community building. It promotes partnerships between law enforcement agencies and stronger neighborhood connections. The event in Haslet also gives residents an opportunity to learn more about local government agencies and other organizations.

Stories, Activity, and Reading Time

Tai chi classes are offered at Haslet Community Park on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. During the school year, Reading to Rover takes place twice a month at Haslet Public Library: certified therapy dogs Bella and Honey visit the library, and children read to each dog for 15 minutes. If you’re planning activities with children, you can keep these different formats in mind: a class in the park and a reading activity at the library.

Mother Goose on the Loose Storytime takes place at Haslet Community Center on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. The program combines music and movement, a sign language lesson, books, songs, and a craft. Story Yoga is also offered there on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m., on the third Wednesday of each month. It is designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers, and combines movement, yoga-inspired stretches, music, and sensory experiences. The two events have different formats; Story Yoga is specifically intended for a particular age group and their caregivers.

Discover Haslet’s History

The town’s history can be traced through its school, railroad, and historical photographs. The Blue Mound School, later known as Haslet, was moved about half a mile north to the current site of the Haslet School Building. In 1883, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway tracks were extended through the Haslet area. The town’s name is associated with Joel C. Harmmond, a railroad entrepreneur from Haslett, Michigan.

Photographs of farms, schools, and churches at Haslet Public Library document the development of Haslet, Texas. Together with the history of the school building, these images offer a way to explore the town’s development that differs from its current recreational and community activities. This lets you discover Haslet through both present-day activities and local history.
