Levelland brings together an artistic tradition, cultural venues, and a range of recreational activities. Outdoor mosaics, the Wallace Theater, and an art collection sit alongside opportunities for sports and fishing. For your stay, you can decide whether culture, activity, or an event date should take center stage. This lets you tailor your vacation-rental search to the experiences you want to shape your stay.

Mosaics with a History

Levelland is known as the “City of Mosaics” and features a total of ten outdoor mosaics. Large-scale works on seven public buildings explore regional and historical themes. The mosaic art thus offers two perspectives: art in the open air and subjects drawn from history and the region. The first outdoor mosaic was created in 1968 by art professors from South Plains College. This beginning gives the mosaic tradition a specific historical connection.

Culture Between Theater and Art Collection

The Downtown Historical Walking Tour offers a self-guided way to explore the historic downtown and requires a smartphone. So if you plan to take the tour, make sure to bring your device.

Built in 1928, the Wallace Theater now serves as a center for arts, culture, and education in Levelland, Texas. It also continues to host concerts. The building’s history and its cultural role today go hand in hand: it dates to 1928 and remains a venue for concerts. If you have a particular concert in mind, check the current schedule.

The Marjorie Merriweather Post Art Collection comprises eight oil paintings dating from the 18th to the 20th century, as well as a pastel drawing on paper from the 18th century. The collection is permanently housed in a 1,750-square-foot addition to the Christine DeVitt Fine Arts Center. The collection brings together two media and different time periods: oil paintings from several centuries and a pastel work on paper from the 18th century.

Recreation: Sports and Fishing

Fishing is permitted at Lobo Lake, subject to state regulations. City Park has sports facilities for baseball, softball, swimming, and disc golf. Levelland City Park also features a newly redesigned 10-hole disc golf course. Levelland Skate Park/Tennis Courts includes a skate park and two tennis courts. Sherman Park is home to Levelland Play Place. The recreational activities listed here range from fishing and several sports to a skate park and tennis courts.

Events Throughout the Year

Event dates can also shape your travel plans: Early Settlers Day takes place on the second Saturday in July. The Sausage Lovers Festival is held every February and offers a taste of the region’s German heritage. The two dates fall at different times of the year. If you’re planning your trip around either festival, check that year’s schedule.
