The Colony combines nature trails, experiences at Lewisville Lake and diverse recreational activities. When planning your trip, it is worth first deciding on your preferred pace: Would you like to combine long walks through nature with time by the water, explore various parks or include culture and entertainment? The options range from paved trails and viewpoints to swimming pools, stages and interactive activities.

Hiking trails with different highlights

The Colony Shoreline Trail offers 3.5 miles of an environmentally sensitive hiking and cycling trail through untouched nature. The trail begins at Stewart Creek Park and ends at Ridgepointe Park. This makes it possible to include the route in your daily itinerary as a clearly defined outdoor experience.

Other trails each have their own highlights. The Tribute Shoreline Nature Trail leads for 2.5 miles through untouched nature and includes a viewpoint of Lewisville Lake at the tip of the peninsula. The Hidden Cove Nature Trail runs for 2.28 miles along Lewisville Lake through the southern part of the 720-acre Hidden Cove Park. Those who prefer different surfaces when walking will find further options in the 3.5-mile paved Park Loop Trail and the 3.3-mile concrete trail through the Austin Ranch area.

Water, parks and active days

Stewart Creek Park on Lewisville Lake offers camping, boat ramps, a swimming beach, a fishing pier and other recreational opportunities at the lake. Hidden Cove Park also combines nature and water: Its facilities include tent sites, covered tent cabins, cabins, sleeping cabins and RV sites with full hookups. The park charges an admission fee; day and annual permits are available on site.

The Wheel Zone Bike & Skate Park, with ramps, platforms, rails and benches, and the 18-hole disc golf course on nearly 48 acres of naturally landscaped grounds provide sporting variety. The Wheel Zone Bike & Skate Park is a free public facility. The Parks and Recreation Department of The Colony also hosts two disc golf tournaments each year, open to players of all skill levels—one in January and one in August.

The Colony Aquatic Park has four swimming pools, including the Splash Zone for the youngest visitors. During the winter and spring months, a heated indoor pool is available there; kayak programs are also offered. Hawaiian Waters expands the aquatic offerings with the Breaker Bay wave pool, the Kona Cooler Lazy River and The Torpedo water slide.

Entertainment and special discoveries

There are also various opportunities for shared experiences away from the trails. The 180-foot-tall Grandscape Wheel offers air-conditioned gondolas. Grandscape Stage & Lawn is equipped for concerts, films and fashion shows; markets, games and fitness classes are also held there. Truck Yard combines live music with local artists and large-scale yard games. Those looking for a playful challenge will find five themed escape rooms at The Escape Game in The Colony, offering collaborative, hands-on and action-oriented gaming experiences.

Historical points of interest complement the recreational offerings. Bridges Cemetery has an official historical marker from the Texas Historical Commission dating from 2018. A historical marker in the Historical Park explains where the present-day community first began to develop. A historic Denton County bridge has also been installed in Greenway Park.
