Gallatin combines tangible city history with seasonal market life, events and various opportunities for exercise and swimming. When planning your trip, it’s worth considering both the dates and your own interests: here, history can be seen in its houses, museum exhibits and special places; outdoors, trails, a fishing pier and a boat ramp offer different attractions.

Greek Revival and Stories from the City

Historic Rose Mont is considered one of the outstanding Greek Revival-style houses in Tennessee. Visits are seasonal, from the first Saturday in April through the end of October, Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If Rose Mont is part of your travel plans, check the opening hours before your visit.

Gallatin City Cemetery also offers a glimpse into history: the historic military cemetery was established in 1818. The grounds include a monument to the Mexican-American War, originally erected between 1848 and 1850. The exhibits at the Sumner County Museum span from prehistory to modern history; the museum covers nearly 10,000 square feet. Together, these topics offer different ways to explore the past—from a specific monument to a wide-ranging exhibition.

Two murals each highlight a special story. One in Thompson Park depicts a Gallatin native who was Tennessee’s first professional skateboarder. Another focuses on a 1970 basketball game between Gallatin High School and Union High School. The Palace Theatre is Tennessee’s oldest silent movie theater still standing at its original location, and also a longstanding indoor performance venue in Sumner County. Its calendar lists public events. Phone contact is required for event inquiries or venue bookings; check the calendar if an event is important to your trip.

Market Life and Events Throughout the Year

The Gallatin Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May through September. It offers fresh fruit and vegetables, freshly baked goods and other food products from local producers, including honey, meat, seafood, jams, herbs, pickled products and eggs. The selection also includes handmade goods such as vegan soaps and lotions, leather and woodwork, candles and jewelry. The food selection may change seasonally; crafts also vary by vendor and time of year.

Special events take place throughout the year in the historic downtown; individual dates may change. You can stroll through the square there and discover specialty shops and a variety of dining options. The market’s set seasonal hours therefore differ from an event calendar, whose individual dates you should check to match your travel dates.

Trails, Water and Exercise

The Town Creek Greenway is approximately two miles long. At Lock 4, there is an approximately nine-mile mountain bike trail made up of well-maintained singletrack. This gives you two different options for planning your day: a shorter Greenway route and a longer mountain bike trail at Lock 4. Lock 4 Park also has an accessible fishing pier measuring 20 × 70 feet and provides access to a boat ramp.

There are several facilities to choose from for swimming. The indoor pool at the Gallatin Civic Center has eight lanes, a free-swim area, a whirlpool and a dry sauna. The Tommy Garrott Aquatics Facility features a beach-like zero-depth entry, splash toys, a splash pad and three slides. Triple Creek Park also has a fenced dog park.

Choose the Right Vacation Rental Based on Your Travel Dates and Interests

If Rose Mont or the Farmers Market is among your main destinations, start by checking your travel dates: the market has a shorter seasonal window and is open Saturdays only, while Rose Mont is open Wednesday through Saturday. Also check the dates of individual events if you want them to shape your stay. Then decide whether city history, market visits, exercise, swimming or a combination of these will define your vacation. Focus your search for a vacation rental in Gallatin on these priorities, and factor the places important to your trip into your own location planning.
