Dandridge Between History and Culture
Accommodation in Dandridge
Dandridge combines preserved historic buildings with cultural events and a history shaped in part by the Douglas Lake reservoir and professional fishing tournaments. The museum, a self-guided walking tour, and the city’s stages reveal different sides of the town. When planning your trip, consider whether you’d like to get to know Dandridge primarily through its history, its events, or its fishing tradition.
Discover History in the Townscape
The Jefferson County Courthouse Historical Museum is housed in the historic 1845 courthouse and offers a glimpse into the region’s past. The Dandridge Walking Tour Guide lets you explore the Historic District on your own. The tour passes through a neighborhood of preserved homes, churches, and commercial buildings—different building types that give the tour its specific stops.
Four early taverns are also still standing today, within walking distance of one another. They offer another look at Dandridge’s historic architecture: several former taverns survive as buildings. In the restored Federal-style home, The Shoppes at Roper Mansion offers antiques, art galleries, specialty goods, and local finds. Shopping there is combined with a visit to a building with its own architectural history.
Water and Fishing History
Dandridge’s history is also connected to the Douglas Lake reservoir. The town’s citizens advocated in Washington, D.C., for the construction of a stone-and-earth dam to protect Dandridge from being flooded by the reservoir. This historic effort makes the idea of protection a tangible part of the town’s history.
The public Dandridge Dock has 20 boat slips available year-round. Check the dock’s current configuration before heading out. Dandridge also has a history as a venue for professional fishing tournaments. The dock and tournament history thus offer two different perspectives on the town’s connection to water and fishing.
Music and Cultural Events
Music on the Town is an annual fall concert series held on the Town Hall Stage in Dandridge. The Dandridge Scots-Irish Festival is an annual two-day cultural event in Historic Downtown Dandridge. Its 17th edition was scheduled for September 2026. The planned program included Celtic music, bagpipe and drum performances, traditional dancing, Highland athletic competitions, and heritage demonstrations.
The concert series takes place in the fall; the 2026 festival edition was specifically scheduled for September.
