Discover Parkston
Accommodation in Parkston
Parkston combines an art museum with a music archive, a public swimming pool and summer concert evenings. It is also home to a large shelter at Rose Bormann Memorial Park and the Veterans Memorial in East Park. Each attraction offers something different: when choosing your vacation rental, consider whether you’re visiting Parkston mainly for art and music, events or swimming.
Art and Music at the Klauss-James Archive and Art Museum
The fully restored Klauss-James Archive and Art Museum features particularly elaborate architectural details. The building itself is an attraction in addition to its collections. The upper floor houses drawings and paintings by artist Bernard Albert James. Art enthusiasts will find a distinct focus here.
The Klauss Archive is located on the ground floor. Its holdings include music manuscripts, classical CDs, reference collections, sheet music and other materials.
Summer Evenings and Events
The AmphiThursday Summer Concert Series takes place every Thursday evening throughout the summer at the Parkston Amphitheater. The concerts are free and combine live music with food trucks and cold beer. If you’d like to plan a concert evening during your stay, Thursday evening is the date to keep in mind.
The 4th of July Celebration is also among the community events sponsored, among others, by the Parkston Commercial Club. Along with the concert series, it offers another glimpse of local event life. The Parkston Gun Club & Sportsman's Club has a different purpose: founded in 1955, it promotes the sport of trap shooting.
Swimming, Picnics and Memorials
The Parkston Public Pool features a wading pool, a diving tower, a diving board and pool areas ranging in depth from 3 to 12 feet. Facilities also include a concession stand, restrooms, lounge chairs and an accessible pool lift. How important swimming is to your stay can therefore be a helpful consideration when planning your trip.
Rose Bormann Memorial Park has a large shelter suitable for picnics, gatherings, activities and events. This makes the park another option if you’d like to spend time together outdoors. The Veterans Memorial in East Park has a special significance on two days: flags and lighting are set up there on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day, making the memorial especially worth visiting on those occasions.
Parkston as a Place to Stay
Art and archival collections, summer concerts, swimming and visits to the memorials all offer different ways to plan your trip. Parkston Municipal Airport is located on the southern edge of town. Its asphalt runway measures 60 × 3600 feet and has runway lighting, a beacon and a precision approach path indicator system.
