Hanover can be explored through several clearly distinct aspects: the Hanover Area History Museum presents the town’s history through thematic narratives, historic homes offer insight into individual building histories, and the Hanover Market House is a place with a long market tradition. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth considering not only which subjects interest you, but also which days of the week you would like to be in Hanover.

Hanover’s History at the Museum

The thematic narratives at the Hanover Area History Museum span more than 250 years of Hanover’s history. This provides a broad historical perspective for anyone looking to discover the town through its past. The museum is located behind the Warehime-Myers Mansion in the former carriage house. The museum and mansion are therefore two distinct historic sites to consider if you are interested in Hanover’s history.

Historic Homes and Architecture

The Warehime-Myers Mansion is located in the Hanover Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Neas House is another example of Hanover’s historic residential architecture: Mathias Neas had the Georgian-style home built around 1783. The two houses thus offer different specific points of interest: for the mansion, its location in the Historic District and its guided tours are relevant; for the Neas House, its Georgian architecture and its documented connection to Mathias Neas are notable.

Tours of the first- and second-floor rooms of the Warehime-Myers Mansion are held on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The last tour starts at 2:30 p.m. on both days; appointments are also available. If the mansion is an important stop for you, you can take these time slots into account when choosing your travel dates. The tour information applies to the first- and second-floor rooms.

The Neas House is open on the second Saturday of each month from April through October, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visits outside these hours are available by appointment. This makes planning a visit different from the tour schedule at the Warehime-Myers Mansion: the Neas House has a set monthly date on the second Saturday, while other visits can be arranged by appointment. Check these times when planning your days in Hanover.

Market Hours at the Hanover Market House

The Hanover Market House has been in operation since 1815 and has been at its current location continuously since 1933. An indoor market is held there on Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; an outdoor market takes place on Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The two offerings differ in both the day of the week and the time and type of market. If you would like to plan a market visit, you can choose between the early Saturday indoor market and the Thursday evening outdoor market.
