The Friends Meeting House: Floor Plan and Building History
The Roaring Creek Friends Meeting House was built in Numidia in 1795 as a log structure. Its two-cell floor plan comprises two meeting rooms of different sizes. This layout follows an early English pattern that was not generally adopted for American Friends meetinghouses of the period. Together with the meetinghouse in nearby Catawissa, it is one of only two surviving log meetinghouses built under the care of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
Motorsports with a History
At Numidia Dragway, the focus shifts from architecture to motorsports. The quarter-mile dragstrip is in Numidia, Pennsylvania, and opened in 1964 under the name “Dragways, Inc.”; the idea came from local physician “Doc” Pratt. The facility is NHRA-sanctioned; this status may change. Friday Night Street Legal Drags take place in spring, summer, and fall and welcome both first-time drivers and experienced racers. First-time participants can ask staff for help with starting procedures, track etiquette, and how a race run works. Staff can also assist with the starting procedure during the first runs. Trail and Reservoirs Nearby
The nearby Roaring Creek Trail is an eight-mile paved path popular for hiking, walking, jogging, and biking. The Roaring Creek Tract lies south of Numidia. Fishing, ice fishing, boating, waterfowl hunting, and wildlife viewing are possible at its three reservoirs. The trail brings together a range of activities on a paved path, while water-based recreation and wildlife viewing are the main draws at the reservoirs.
