Beaver Meadows is located in the Pocono Mountains, a region known for its scenic beauty and opportunities for outdoor recreation. The town itself invites you to explore not only its scenic surroundings but also its history as a trading, mining and railroad town, as well as its art scene. When looking for a place to stay, you might consider whether you are primarily interested in Beaver Meadows’ local history and cultural attractions, or whether the natural setting of the Pocono Mountains is the deciding factor.

Trade Route, Railroad and Mining History

The settlement of Beaver Meadows can be traced back to 1804, when the Lehigh & Susquehanna Turnpike ran through the town. At the time, the road was a heavily used trade route in the area. Beaver Meadows thus developed along a transportation route that played an important role in the exchange of goods. Those interested in the town’s origins can use this early connection as a starting point.

Another significant date is 1832. That year, the Beaver Meadow Railroad was founded, and its workshops were built in Beaver Meadows. The railroad was constructed along the south side of what is now Main Street. Later, coal mining also shaped the town’s history: in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Beaver Meadows was a bustling mining town, with coal extracted from nearby mines. The turnpike, railroad and mining represent different chapters in the town’s development rather than a single historical era.

Many homes in Beaver Meadows are historic and reflect the town’s long history. For visitors who enjoy exploring a place’s character and past, the history of its homes complements the broader themes of trade, railroads and mining. The Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church also welcomes visitors and offers another cultural point of interest in town.

Art in a Restored Church

The GreenLeaf Gallery & Gift Shop offers an art experience in a restored historic church. Its exhibition space covers 4,000 square feet. The works on display are by local creatives and international artists. The venue thus combines the building’s former use as a church with a gallery that brings together a range of artistic perspectives.

The selection ranges from paintings, drawings and collages to photography, glass art and textile art. It also includes ceramics, sculptures and decorative works. This variety encompasses both visual works and art made from different materials and in three-dimensional forms. You can therefore plan your visit around the art forms that interest you most, rather than expecting to see just one genre.

The shop also carries handmade gifts, including jewelry, decorative items and crafts from around the world. The gallery and gift shop offer different ways to explore: on the one hand, there are the works on display, and on the other, handmade items to discover. Together with the history of the building, they create a cultural focus that differs markedly from Beaver Meadows’ industrial past.

Park Events with Specific Dates

Concert events have also been listed for specific years. In 2024, a concert series titled “Concert in the Park” took place at Memorial Park on Church Street in Beaver Meadows. For 2025, Beaver Meadows Borough’s parks and recreation program listed five dates for the series, from June 29 to August 24.

A Christmas program in the park organized by Beaver Meadows Citizens for Recreation included Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, gifts for children, carriage rides and dance performances. The program brings together different elements of a community celebration: meeting the holiday characters, gifts, a carriage ride and performances. Along with the concert series, it shows the different kinds of public events held in Beaver Meadows.
