Forfar appeals to travelers who don’t want to reduce the coast and nature to a single experience. Highlights range from the historic lighthouse to wetlands, beach access, trails, and paddling. When planning, it helps to consider whether you’re interested in scenery and habitats, time by the sea, or getting active on foot, by bike, and on the water. You can then tailor your vacation rental search to the experiences you want to shape your stay.

Lighthouse and Park History

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse is the only surviving historic wooden lighthouse in Oregon. It offers a distinctive cultural highlight alongside the area’s natural attractions. Brian Booth State Park also has a story behind its name: it was initially known as Ona Beach State Park and was renamed in 2013. If local history is also part of how you choose outings, this year provides a specific point of reference. The former name and the current name mark two clearly distinct chapters.

Wetlands, Trails, and Paddling

The Beaver Creek Marsh provides habitat for river otters, beavers, and migratory and resident birds. Its biodiversity therefore includes both mammals and different groups of birds, offering a different focus from a purely coastal view. For getting active on land, there are two clearly different trail lengths: the Overlook Trail is 0.3 miles long, while the Beaver Creek Loop is 2 miles long. The Overlook Trail is the shorter route, while the loop offers a longer option. A three-mile paddling route through calm water winds through the swamps and wetlands of the Beaver Creek estuary. It offers a different perspective on this habitat than the trails on land. The Beaver Creek boat ramp is just off Highway 101.

Beach, Views, and Coastal Experiences

Lost Creek State Recreation Site is near Forfar and offers picnic areas and beach access. Driftwood Beach State Recreation Site provides access to the ocean and picnic facilities. At Seal Rock State Recreation Site, you’ll find tide pools and views of the ocean. Offshore rock formations provide habitat for seals, sea lions, seabirds, and other marine life. There is also an ADA-accessible viewpoint halfway along the beach trail. The paved Jetty Trail in South Beach State Park is suitable for jogging and biking. These coastal destinations therefore offer different highlights: picnics and beach access, tide pools and views, or exercise on a paved trail.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When choosing a vacation rental, you can start by considering which experiences you want to shape your stay most. If you enjoy planning different kinds of activities, you can compare the shorter and longer trails with the calm-water paddling option. If you’d rather spend time by the sea, beach access, tide pools, and views are distinct options. Wildlife habitats and the history of the lighthouse offer other ways to plan your days. These differences help you decide what kind of stay you want, without squeezing every activity into the same daily schedule.
